How do you want the footnotes handled?

They are optional. You can read the ones you find interesting.

Is there a standard way to do it or do I just say "footnote" and then pause after reading the footnote before continuing with the text?

While we are on footnotes, many of them are scripture references.

Code: Select all

...account given by Luke[*] of a woman whose character had been...
...
...
* Luke 18:9–14
Can I say,
account given by Luke found in Luke 18:9-14, of a woman whose character had been...
Meaning can I add natural transitional words to transition into the text of the footnote?

"Footnote" (text) "end footnote" is normal. But for Bible references, you could just read the reference without saying it's a footnote if you want. I wouldn't add text to make it fluent, however.
