The Wandering Jew, Part 1, by Eugène Sue (1804 - 1857)
The Wandering Jew and his sister Hérodiade are condemned to wander the earth and protect the Rennepont family from all harm, until the entire family has disappeared from the earth. The story follows this family and rarely features the Wandering Jew himself.

The Renneponts were Huguenots persecuted by the Jesuits under Louis XIV. Immediately before the persecution, a small fortune was entrusted to a Jewish banker. This fortune has grown to an immense sum. 150 years later, the family is summoned back to Paris to disperse this fortune. They come from the four corners of the earth and from all social levels, not remembering why they're being summoned.

However, the Jesuits want to keep this fortune for themselves. They employ agents all over the world to put obstacles in the way of the Renneponts.

Published as a serial novel, it has over 170 chapters in 3 parts. This is Part One, containing Books 1-3 of 11. NOTE: This work is overtly and intensely anti-Catholic. (Summary by TriciaG)

Wow! Cool to see this one getting off the ground! I actually sat down and read a physical copy of it last year, and man, you aren't kidding about it being extremely anti-Catholic. I gotta say, Rodin, the main villain in this, has gotta be one of the most evil, sinister masterminds I've ever come across in fiction.

Thanks! Actually, I haven't read it. I got the anti-Catholic part from other sources.

For the note on the author, you don't have to read the section title as in the MW; just read the title of that note as in the text. :)

Thanks! Intriguing. And thanks for just skipping over that little diagram of the nails in the shoes. :)

0 is PL OK (err, was a few days ago).

Section 1, some minor intro changes:

0:00 please say "Book 1 Prologue" (you just have "prologue")

0:22 please say after "The Transgression", "Book 1 prologue" (right now you just have "prologue")

Thanks! :)
