The Runaway, by Hannah Cowley (1743 - 1809)
The first play by Cowley, this was premiered at Drury Lane by actor-manager David Garrick, to whom it is dedicated, in 1776. It was successful and so she wrote two more plays by the year's end.

George Hargrave wants to marry Emily, a runaway who is now the ward of his godfather. However, his father wants George to marry the rich but much older Lady Dinah. Will true love win out?
(Summary by ToddHW)
This project is complete. Audio files can be found in our Librivox catalog page at https://librivox.org/the-runaway-by-hannah-cowley/

Here we go again with another Hannah Cowley comedy, this one her first play.

Gender neutral, of course. It does have those pesky typographical "f's" for "s's" that you have proved quite capable of handling in her previous plays.

Kitty will be our DPL and play Bella as well as the harpsichord. Maybe if you turn pages for her she will be kinder in her PL comments to you. (Just don't try to sing along....)

I'll take on the Servant (and play the harpsichord in such a way that Bella appears to be doing so)

Thank you. That way I won't have to use my harpsichord or clavichord to do so.

here is lovely and lively Bella, who doesn't take life too serious. It was relaxing to be voicing her. I tried to make the chanting very melancholy.
