I thought I'd better PL this right away, lest you get an even newer mic setup and have to record the whole thing again.. lol!

But no extra recording necessary, everything is wonderfully recorded -- the new mic setup is a great success! It even picked up the car horn honking -- and it wasn't an early 20th century car either  - but luckily it was in the space between your lines. :D

Mr. Bhattacharya is PL OK! And that's a wrap!

I noticed that your recording settings are not correct.

First of all, you exported the file in stereo instead of mono. Also the volume falls outside of the target range (86-92 dB). I was able to mix stereo down to mono in Audacity, but I'm not sure if the quality suffered. I think it's fine, though.

Best if you use the Librivox checker app before submitting your files:
https://cgjennings.ca/projects/checker/

I have 2 tiny notes for Ronny Chapter 3:

4:16 "ravelled" (This time I hear "revealed");
the dark ravelled bit at the top was the sand,

4:40 "conceivably" (I still hear "convincingly"); you also left out the word "some"
RONNY: to report suspicious characters and conceivably it was some disreputable hakim who had prowled up from the bazaar.

Since I already did some editing with this file in Audacity, it would be easiest if you just submit these 2 lines as a separate file. Please remember to adjust your settings to Librivox standards.

Thanks!
TJ

Hahaha, thank you very much. I did notice the outer noise in the spaces, you would also notice mouse click sounds, but I kept them without silencing since the instruction says naturally generated silence should be in-between. Cheers.

@Todd:

Would you mind reading two more lines in Hamidullah's voice? They're on page 7 of chapter 9, and officially they are part of the narrator's lines. I've recorded them already (so if you don't feel like it, it's fine  ), but I think they would sound better coming in Hammidullah's voice. You could submit them as an extra file as I am already editing this chapter. Thanks!

The poem had done no “good” to anyone, but it was a passing reminder, a breath from the divine lips of beauty, a nightingale between two worlds of dust. Less explicit than the call to Krishna, it voiced our loneliness nevertheless, our isolation, our need for the Friend who never comes yet is not entirely disproved. Aziz it left thinking about women again, but in a different way: less definite, more intense. Sometimes poetry had this effect on him, sometimes it only increased his local desires, and he never knew beforehand which effect would ensue: he could discover no rule for this or for anything else in life.

Hamidullah had called in on his way to a worrying committee of notables, nationalist in tendency, where Hindus, Moslems, two Sikhs, two Parsis, a Jain, and a Native Christian tried to like one another more than came natural to them. As long as someone abused the English, all went well, but nothing constructive had been achieved, and if the English were to leave India, the committee would vanish also. He was glad that Aziz, whom he loved and whose family was connected with his own, took no interest in politics, which ruin the character and career, yet nothing can be achieved without them. He thought of Cambridge—sadly, as of another poem that had ended. How happy he had been there,

I've updated the scripts for Chapters 15 & 16. It only affects Aziz and Adela, and adds another small part for Miss Derek's chauffeur.

Thanks,
TJ

1:19
DR. PANNA LAL: “Cholera, cholera, what next, what now?”

Your pronunciation of "cholera" is hard to understand. It should be: kŏl′ər-ə
(Listen here: https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/pronunciation/english/cholera )

1:27
DR. PANNA LAL: “Who spreads such untrue reports about my patients?”

Instead of "reports," I hear "resorts."

1:33
DR. PANNA LAL: “I hear cholera, ..."
(kŏl′ər-ə)

1:45
...and the originators of them ought to be discovered and punished authoritatively.”

Instead of "authoritatively," I hear "authoritively."
benderca wrote: June 25th, 2023, 11:51 am Nice acting, Elijah!

I have one question about your pronunciation of "valuable" -- you say it twice in Chapter 6, and both times, it sounds to me like "venerable." If that's just your pronunciation of "valuable," then I will mark it as PL OK.

1:16
It spoiled some most valuable blossoms in the club garden,

1:30
But, Dr. Aziz, I’ll not take up your valuable time.

I really love the accent!

Thanks,
TJ
That is how I pronounced it, more so with the accent and everything.

I made corrections to Chapter 9 though:

Since both of the sections ehsanesque requested were in the same chapter and you might not want someone to double in the same chapter, I offer you the chauffeur.

https://librivox.org/uploads/rapunzelina/passagetoindia_missderekschauffeur_16.mp3

(Feel free to discard it if you are going to accept ehsanesque's request and don't need it.)

Thanks, Todd
