Complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page:
http://librivox.org/who-was-who-5000-bc-1914-by-irwin-leslie-gordon/

This one will be a trio dramatic reading with myself (ductapeguy), jimmowatt, and Cloud Mountain each alternating entries throughout.
As Cloud Mountain and Jim have excused themselves from the project, chocoholic and Sibella have volunteered to join in the chorus for this project.

Transfer of files (completed recordings)
Please post in this thread when you have transferred your file!

You may upload your sections by FTP to my server at librivox.ductapeguy.net PM me for the password.

Division of Sections: I roughly divided the book into 1500-2000 word sections. I think one is a little longer. If you have other ideas for dividing up the work post them below and we'll work it out.

We are alternating through each entry of the text. I generally do the first entry for each letter of the alphabet then we sequence through 1-Sean, 2- Jim, 3- Alan and repeat ad nauseum (not literally I hope). The script is divided into S-J-A sections.

A completed script can be found here.

On one of your first recordings, could you both record
1) Recorded by (name) (URL) (Location)
2) Disclaimer
"This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org""

3) record the words "End of Section"

Send your files as wav or aiff in this format
who_was_who_-_(letters)_(reader).wav

i.e. : who_was_who_-_intro_and_a_jim.wav

As WAV files have proven very large to send about, we have moved to using flac or 320kbs mp3 files for this project.

Pam is proof- listening. Edit: Fae has also offered to proof-listen

Starlite and ductapeguy are going to edit it all together.

Note to readers: Please note that we're using the new and improved LibriVox intro - at the very beginning, say "Section ## of Who was Who, by Irwin Leslie Gordon (letter) to (letter)." then the usual "This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org""

Set your recording software to:
Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz
Record in WAV or AIFF formats.

End of recording
At the end of the section, say:
“End of [Section number & "letter to letter"]"
If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"

At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of Who Was Who, by Irwin Leslie Gordon"

Please leave 5 seconds silence at the end of your recording, or 10 seconds for files longer than 30 minutes!

Also, please remember to check this thread frequently for updates!

Well, I guess I'm on the Bill, so I can't back down now. Do I have until March? April? May? Click on my name in the magic window and you'll see I have more projects to complete than any 90 hour a week teacher should have. Oh well, you promised me the text was funny... No she-pish appologgiess neccessarriy. Just means I'll hit 1500 posts sooner in i taught.

Thanks Alan. Sorry for getting thoughtless in my enthusiasm.

We are aiming for April 1 (April Fools) but of course all Librivox deadlines are flexible (we are all volunteers).

Glad I'm not here?
Oh I'm terribly hurt.
<Jim puts back of hand to forehead in tragic pose>

Ductapeguy, an idea.
I know it would be a lot more work but I think it might be funnier if we actually alternated on entries so you get 3 different voices swooping in, one after the other.

What do you think?

I don't mean that we should catalog seperate files for each entry (that would be too horrible) but that we record the entries and then splice them together as if it were a dramatic presentation.
What do you think?

I know that none of us has much in the way of spare time so it would be ideal if we found an extra person (an editor) to put the files together.

The disclaimer and file seperations could still be where you've indicated in the text.

I had actually considered this myself, but it does increase the production time. Also I had thought of random noises, vocoder effects, etc..., but the text is funny enough by itself.

Alan has already asked if he could just record and not edit (BTW-- that can be arranged Alan).

I am willing to go through the book with 3 colors of highlighter and divide the script up that way.-- I can put it up on Google docs. If both of you are in, I'll work on preparing a script tonight).

I might be willing to take on the editing or we can press-gang (I mean-- politely ask) a brilliant editor.

Everybody say it together (Yoo Hoo, Esther!)

I have edited the magic box, but if we do it as a choral reading, I can edit it again.

Any other comments, ideas???

That can be arranged. Either I'll edit it or we'll call in the troops.

Yes, I saw the possible call for an editor. Once you have decided what you are going to do, I may be able to help depending on when you need it done. I'm in my busy season now and time is at a premium now. My time wont free up till May 1st. So I will follow the thread and see what happens.

My favourite entry so far in this book is:

DUMPTY, H., celebrated accident victim. Fell from a wall at an
early age and never recovered, despite the services of
specialists

1. I don't think you need to go to all the trouble of highlighter.
We could have a system where you always do first entry, I do second and Cloud Mountain third, then you fourth, me fifth and Alan sixth and so on.
It shouldn't be too difficult for us to figure it out.

2. There's no real reason to mess with the magic box anymore.
They could still be the chapters and I don't really see that it matters whether the reader information is 100 per cent accurate.

3. It looks like Esther might be in on this Hurrah!

So, what do you think?
