Maria: or, The Wrongs of Woman is Mary Wollstonecraft's unfinished novelistic sequel to her revolutionary political treatise A Vindication of the Rights of Woman. It was published posthumously in 1798 by her husband, William Godwin. Maria revolves around the story of a woman imprisoned in an insane asylum by her husband, and focuses on the societal rather than the individual "wrongs of woman". Publicised at the same time as Wollstonecraft's memoirs, both were considered scandalous. Not until the 20th century was the novel considered an important historical and feminist work. IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project will be opened up to a group project as soon as a Book Coordinator can be found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to have it re-instated).

A far cry from tales of fluffy college girl life :o
Um, this book has some footnotes, but I think I'm going to ignore them in the reading because they're mostly just about changes in manuscript etc. since Wollstonecraft never finished the book completely before she died.
Group the two prefaces together and grouping the odd appendix in the middle of the book with chapter 14 should bring the section total to 19!
I can MC this for you. It's funny, I was just looking at this yesterday! (I'm teaching a Jane Austen course at the moment and was researching women writers who influenced her...) I'll be back in a moment with the magic window.
OK, all set up. You might want to write a summary and post it above, which might help attract a DPL. I'll leave us in the launch pad for a little while for that same purpose. Have fun!
Hey, i just noticed the example filename is mariad_##_wollstonecraft.mp3. I meant this to be maria_##_wollstonecraft.mp3. Did it get changed for technical reasons or did I make a typo? ^^
