(Please leave no more than 0.5 - 1 second of silence at the beginning of your recording!)
Little Homer's Slate by Eugene Field, read for LibriVox.org by [your name].
[Add, if you wish, date, your location, and/or your personal url.]
Then read the poem:
AFTER dear old grandma died,
Hunting through an oaken chest
In the attic, we espied
What repaid our childish quest;
'Twas a homely little slate,
Seemingly of ancient date.

On its quaint and battered face
Was the picture of a cart,
Drawn with all that awkward grace
Which betokens childish art;
But what meant this legend, pray:
"Homer drew this yesterday?"

Mother recollected then
What the years were fain to hide--
She was but a baby when
Little Homer lived and died;
Forty years, so mother said,
Little Homer had been dead.

This one secret through those years
Grandma kept from all apart,
Hallowed by her lonely tears
And the breaking of her heart;
While each year that sped away
Seemed to her but yesterday.

So the homely little slate
Grandma's baby's fingers pressed,
To a memory consecrate,
Lieth in the oaken chest,
Where, unwilling we should know,
Grandma put it, years ago.
At the end of your reading, leave a space and then say:
End of poem. This recording is in the public domain.

Here is my version of this typically pathetic childhood memory poem by Field. I've never seen this one before.

Thank you Len, good reading :)

Welcome to LibriVox Sweetlilbirdy :D
There is a slight stumble at 0:50 you may wish to edit out, otherwise a good beginning to your LibriVox career :P

I see Lucy over in Weekly Poetry has asked for your catalog name and mentioned about including the file duration when you post a link. (1:25 for this reading) :wink:

This is a real sad one. I think we should mix up the title a bit with the Weekly poem: this can be the "The Sad Case of Homer" and the Weekly poem can be "Little Edgar's Plate" :lol:
