New graphic artist
Hello!
I've just joined the LibriVox family. While waiting for my microphone to arrive I'd like to design some CD covers. How do I know which ones to design? Are catalogued books with no "Download CD cover" notation fair game?

Absolutely! We'd be delighted to see any covers that you design, of course, but the ones that don't already have covers feel the lack most sorely.
Thank you!
Thank you!
I've been working on this, but I wanted to check about copyright before I spend too much time on it. Wikipedia says that "accurate photographs of two-dimensional visual artworks lack expressive content and are automatically in the public domain once the painting's copyright has expired (which it has in the US if it was published before 1923). All other copyright notices can safely be ignored."
This cover uses three images by Berthe Morisot which have been photoshopped to death by me. Is this OK in principal?

Sorry, I can't seem to post the image, but the question remains. Also sorry this started a new thread; meant to post it in Volunteer CD covers. Ah well, I'll get used to this eventually!
PS, how DO you insert an image? I clicked the Img button and pasted a link from my photo host site, but that didn't work.

The link doesn't work, probably because of the @ in the url.
But when you copy and paste it directly into the browser, you can see the image. It's beautiful!
Are these pictures first published before 1923?
If so, you can use them. It is custom though to credit the artist (on the backside of the cover).
When this cover is finished, you can submit it through the Volunteer CD covers thread, where it will be picked up by one of our admins (could be me). For now, for you to get used to the process, let's communicate through this thread.

Thanks neighbor Bart (I'm living in Belgium at the moment). As is understand it, they're talking about the date of the PAINTING, not the PHOTOGRAPH of the painting. If so, then any painting made public before 1923 is in the public domain, right?

The date when the painting was published is the copyright date. The date of the photograph being published is not an issue.
I know now why your image won't show: There is no .jpg or similar ending to the url. But I edited your post and made the url clickable. That's second best I guess.

EDIT And now the picture shows!

There is a thread http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=28785 which has how too at the beginning than I think it is a case of finding something in the catalogue that doesn't have one but ask over in the thread and someone more knowing will help
