Hi all,

I'm going to begin working on a recording of Abraham Lincoln's Cooper Union Address.

I like the idea that was posted on the MLK discussion page about starting a "nonfiction short work collection"; I imagine something like the Cooper Union Address would fit nicely under this category.

Hi all,

I have finished my recording of Abraham Lincoln's Address at Cooper Union. I'd be happy to hear any comments you all might have about the reading.

If you've ever been peeved when someone said that "the founding fathers wanted it that way," yet did not provide any evidence for that assertion, take a look at Lincoln's Address at Cooper Union.

When he gave the speech, Lincoln was considered by many to be just a country lawyer. After he gave the speech, he soon became his party's nominee for president.

Hello Scott, I will MC you, that means, I collected your file and will put it in the listeners wanted section. There it will be checked for major mistakes like repetitions etc. If you want specific feedback or tips for future recordings you have to ask explicitly for it, as we normally do not criticize the style of the readings.
Here is the thread in "Listeners Wanted":

Hello Scott,

I quote the encouraging comment of nomenphile on your recording in case you didn' read it. It will soon be in the catalogue.
nomenphile wrote:Scott,
This is a very good recording. You make excellent use of variations in stress to help the listener follow the meaning of the text and your diction is unusually clear. Your reading speed is neither too fast nor too slow.
The technical quality is also good, though you might be able to improve slightly in future recordings by putting the microphone farther from your mouth to reduce breath noise.
Thank you for reading this address. I had never encountered it before and found it very interesting. I look forward to your future projects.
Greetings,
Rainer

Hello Scott,

how do you want to appear in the catalogue? Also, we like to have a short summary/introduction to our recording. I just thought to take (part of) your first post:

This is a recording of Abraham Lincoln's Address at Cooper Union. When he gave the speech, Lincoln was considered by many to be just a country lawyer. After he gave the speech, he soon became his party's nominee for president.

If you want another summary, please post it.

Good work,

Rainer

Hi Rainer, thanks for all your help.

Please list me in the catalog as henkelsc.

For the summary, let's use this:

On 27 February 1860, Abraham Lincoln gave this address at the Cooper Union in New York City. When he gave the speech, Lincoln was considered by many to be just a country lawyer. After he gave the speech, he soon became his party's nominee for president.
