Exploration Team, by Murray Leinster (1896 - 1975)

Volunteers outside the USA: Murray Leinster died in 1975. This person's work may still be protected by copyright in countries where copyright duration is determined by the author's death date. In Europe this is 70 years; in Canada it is 70 years for authors who died after 1971; and in Australia it is 70 years for authors who died after 1955.
"If you took a spitting cobra and crossed it with a wildcat, painted it tan-and-blue and then gave it hydrophobia and homicidal mania at once—why you might have one sphex.", so says rugged adventurer Hyugens of the a particularly vicous native species to the harsh and inhospitable planet Loren Two, a planet that Hyugens has chosen to attempt to colonize illegally with the help of his friends Sitka Pete, Sourdough Charley and Faro Nell (along with her child Nugget), massive mutated Kodiak bears, bred to be intelligent and loyal to man. Also to aid him in his mission is his trained giant eagle Semper. When Huygens discovers that a robot colony has been overrun by sphexes and possible survivors are trapped in a mine-tunnel with little time to spare, he makes the difficult choice to head out on a rescue mission, even if it means his own arrest and capture.

Winner of Hugo Award for Best Novelette in 1956!

If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Just FYI, I updated the summary and keywords. Also I don't remember adding this when I set it up but here's the wiki page for it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exploration_Team
