The recording was done on a random headset so I'm not sure whether the quality is able to be acceptable at all. I did try to use the checker and it said it was outside the target range but it didn't specify how so I don't know how to adjust the volume. I appreciate any feedback :)

Welcome to Librivox, Barbara!

Your voice is animated and clear, and your test meets all but one of the Librivox standards. That is volume (standard range is between 86 and 92 dB, with 89-90 dB being the ideal). Your test is at 92.9 dB. There's an easy fix for this if you're using Audacity; select your whole track then click Effect > Loudness Normalization, set that to -19LUFS "Perceived loudness," and click Apply. That will bring your volume down to an acceptable range.

I believe your headset will work, but you just need to keep an eye on the level of background noise (more on that below). You might want to slow your reading down a bit when you start recording. The best readers read at a pace that at first listen sounds extraordinarily slow, but that listeners appreciate.

As to seeing the specifics in Checker, you'll see that the window contains two tabs, "Validation" (which you looked at on your computer) and "Information" (see below). If you click that "Information" tab, you'll see all the details you need.

If you want it to also show your Background Noise, select Validation > Choose Validation Methods, and tick the box for Background Noise. You only need to do this once. The Checker reviews the last 5 seconds of silence in a recording to assess background noise (all Librivox recordings are required to have 5 seconds of silence at the end so they work properly in all media players).

Please adjust your volume, as outlined above, run it through Checker again, and re-upload your file. I'll come back and review it.

You're almost there!

Thanks,
Winnifred

Thank you for the feedback! Volume normalized and I'll try to read slower in the future :)

And you're ready to start recording!

I suggest heading over to the "Readers Wanted: Short Works (Poetry & Prose)" forum to find your first recording. There are lots of short options there in all genres. Let the book coordinator of your first reading know if you want a different name than BarbaraGuerra in the Librivox catalogue. (In the catalogue, you can have a space between your first and last name, unlike your forum name.)

If you have questions along the way, the "Need Help? Got Advice?” forum is a useful place to get answers.

Happy reading!
