Ponnamal, Her Story, by Amy Wilson Carmichael (1867 - 1951)
"A girl stood alone in the dark, listening. No one moved about her; the old mother-in-law who slept near by breathed steadily, she would not waken yet awhile. the girl drew back the heavy iron bolts of the door and slipped out into the night.

Out there, in the soft warm air, with the white stars looking down on her with only pity in their eyes, she stopped; she knew the thing she purposed doing was unreasonable and hopelessly wrong; but she was too desperate with loneliness to care. Life since her husband had died had been too hard to live. A widow's life in India--God only knows how hard it can be made--she could bear it no longer; she had crept out now to end it, as so many girls have ended it." (Summary by From Chapter 1)
Source text (please read only from this text!): I am reading from a hard copy of the book from Moody Bible Institute Library, copyright 1924. I plan to scan it and upload it to Archive before I catalog the project.

Target completion date:

Prooflistening level: Standard
Prospective PLs, please see the Guide for Proof-listeners.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!
