PL Note for ch. 37:
We're missing the last two lines for this chapter. For context, they come at the tail end of a distressing scene where Beaumanoir has been bullying Rebecca, condemning her in the trial, and defying her cultural modesty:
She withdrew her veil, and looked on them with a countenance in which bashfulness contended with dignity. Her exceeding beauty excited a murmur of surprise, and the younger knights told each other with their eyes, in silent correspondence, that Brian’s best apology was in the power of her real charms, rather than of her imaginary witchcraft. But Higg, the son of Snell, felt most deeply the effect produced by the sight of the countenance of his benefactress.
Higg: “Let me go forth,”
he said to the warders at the door of the hall, —
Higg: “let me go forth! — To look at her again will kill me, for I have had a share in murdering her.”

Missing Higg lines added to chapter 37; uploaded and ready for Spot PL.
(Think of them as Higg's booboo's - sorta like Higg's bosons, but less powerful....)
Thanks, Todd

Ps. Maybe it is said: seh-kins?
The problem is, when I say it that way, it sounds like I am saying "seconds" but am just taking out the 'd'.

I believe the proper way to pronounce this is "zek-keen-ah" in Italian.IonaMuirgel2002 wrote: ↑May 16th, 2024, 9:25 am Ps. Maybe it is said: seh-kins?

Oh, is this supposed to be Italian? I guess I always assumed that it was just old English! And I knew that the old English language did not have a 'Z' in it.

I don't claim to be an expert on this play. The Italian pronunciation of this word is the only one I am aware of. That is why I pointed out that fact.IonaMuirgel2002 wrote: ↑May 16th, 2024, 9:41 am Oh, is this supposed to be Italian? I guess I always assumed that it was just old English! Perhaps someone with a deeper understanding of the play could weigh-in if the pronunciation I posted is not correct for this play.

Here is 'merry man 3' chapter 11.
I found it extremely hard to say "a forfeit, a forfeit" in a male's voice as well as in an accent! Whenever I said it, I always thought of my Great-Grandfather who used to say: "Quaker meeting has begun, no more laughing, no more fun! If you show your teeth or tongue, you'll have to pay a forfeit!" But he was from New Hampshire, so he always said "foffit" and we never knew what he meant!
