Among The Rocks by Robert Browning (1812 - 1889)

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found in our catalog:
https://librivox.org/among-the-rocks-by-robert-browning/

LibriVox volunteers bring you __ recordings of Among The Rocks by Robert Browning.
This was the Weekly Poetry project for May 12, 2024.
------
By his death in 1889 he was seen as a sage and philosopher-poet who had fed into Victorian social and political discourse. Societies for studying his work survived in Britain and the US into the 20th century.
(Summary by Wikipedia)
Each week a poem is chosen to be recorded by as many LibriVox volunteers as possible!
This week's poem can be found here.
Project Code: bWMoOS4z

New to recording? Please see our Newbie Guide to Recording for further instructions. A quick guide to our required technical settings can be found here. When you post your file, please tell the BC what name you would like to use in our catalog.

LibriVox recording settings: mono (1 channel), 44100 Hz sample rate, 128 kbps constant bit rate MP3. See the Tech Specs

Begin your reading with the abbreviated LibriVox disclaimer:
Leave ½ to 1 second of silence at the beginning.
Among The Rocks by Robert Browning, read for librivox.org by [your name].
[Add, if you wish, date, and/or your location.]
Then read the poem:
Oh, good gigantic smile o' the brown old earth,
This autumn morning! How he sets his bones
To bask i' the sun, and thrusts out knees and feet
For the ripple to run over in its mirth;
Listening the while, where on the heap of stones
The white breast of the sea-lark twitters sweet.

That is the doctrine, simple, ancient, true;
Such is life's trial, as old earth smiles and knows.
If you loved only what were worth your love,
Love were clear gain, and wholly well for you:
Make the low nature better by your throes!
Give earth yourself, go up for gain above!
At the end of your reading, leave a space and then say:
End of poem. This recording is in the public domain.
Leave 5 seconds of silence at the end.

Hi David,

Yours is perfect except for one small thing. At 0:33 for "That is the doctrine" I'm hearing "This is the doctrine". Minor deviation, but if you wanted to fix it it is up to you.

Bruce.

Thank you Bruce, I have exchanged the 'this' for a 'that' in this edit... :twisted:
