IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I've set this up. (About time, eh?) 8-) A few notes:

1) I've shortened the title in your initial intro wording. Since the title is repeated, the first one can be a shorter version. You could also use this shorter one in the subsequent intros, but leave the full title in the "end of book" outro wording.

2) I've also shortened the file naming scheme. If you think the "andofthebattleofthearmenians" needs to be in there, you can put it in, but I think this is sufficient.

3) As you're the soloist, you're in charge of updating the Magic Window.

Detailed Instructions for accessing the Magic Window can be found in the document linked here: Instructions for Soloists

I've entered the first two sections for you as an example. You can fill in the rest and modify the ones I entered if needed. (Are you dividing chapters into parts? Then you can add "Part 1" to that first one. Are you reading the preface? Then you can put that in one of the later sections and drag-drop it into its proper place.)

When you upload a chapter, put the file duration (mm:ss) in the Notes field and the uploaded URL into the Listen URL field, and mark it from Assigned to Ready for PL.

4) We'll hang out here in the Launch Pad until you've got your feet wet within the Magic Window. :) Holler if you have questions!

Thank you TriciaG and ej400. I've added chapter titles to the magic window. I had thought to add the translators' preface as well, or is that generally not done? I'll get started shortly with the dedication.

You definitely can add the preface if you like! That's your choice. :)

Okay I've uploaded the Dedication. It was only two pages, about 5 minutes total. Let me know if that passes the basic test and then I can try to tackle the rest. I expect the project to take about a month.

By the way, I picked this project because I'm Armenian myself and wanted to learn Armenian history better by reading the classic sources. I also might be able to tackle the pronunciations of the more obscure names and such.

I added the preface, but I noticed there is some Greek text in there, which I only read terribly. What are the standard methods for handling non Latin text?

Great! Please add the run time (minutes:seconds) in the Notes field of each section. I use them at cataloging time to be sure nothing is out of order or otherwise messed up.

You can ask in the forum here! This thread is popular: viewtopic.php?t=40285

I'd say, post there rather than in the "Ancient Greek" one listed, since this thread is more active.

You could also ask for someone to record it, and you could patch it into your recording. That's less common, but an option.

Hey there! Great reading! You read very well, I quite enjoy your narration :D

I do have 1 PL note which is that the volume on this section is incredibly low, at just 63.1 dbs. We aim for 86 to 92 dbs. I would recommend amplifying through audacity (if that is what you are using to edit), and then checking for noise reduction (sometimes amplifying will bring noise up with it). If you need any help, or have questions, let me know :D

Okay, I have uploaded Section 2 and I've adjusted the volume for section 1.

On the Greek, there is a Greek woman at my church willing to help me with the pronunciation in that passage!

Okay, sorry for the delay but section 3 is up. I think it might be a bit long. Is this worth breaking into two somehow?

It's well within the length limit, so there's nothing on LV's side to say one way or the other. It's personal preference - your decision. :)

If you do, you'd have to redo the intro. For the section title, you'd say something like "[section title], part 1." Then the second part would be "part 2."
