Greetings Leslie

I reviewed your test sample, and while it sounds good there are some technical changes needed. LibriVox requires audio that is 128kbps constant bit rate MP3, 44.1kHz sample rate, mono, and between 86db and 92db, preferably 89-90. Your test audio settings are correct, except the volume, which is too low at 73.3db.

Make sure the the input gain slider in Audacity (upper right with the little mic icon) is well to the right. Then adjust the input gain on your mic so your raw recording has wave forms that peak at about the 0.5 marks in the Audacity window:

If necessary, adjust the volume level before exporting by going to Effects>Amplify

You can pre-check your audio yourself by downloading the free Checker app: https://cgjennings.ca/projects/checker/
Passed with Warnings is a fail with regard to volume.
Go to Validation>Choose Validation Methods and check Background Noise. Be sure to leave 5 seconds blank at the end of your recording.

Please make a new test recording and post it in a reply to this message. I will come back and review it for you.

Hopefully the second time's a charm on this one.

The volume is even lower at 70.5db.

The wave form should be about half the height of the recording track, per the image above. Yours is barely visible.

Please download and use the Checker on all your audio files before uploading. It will save you a lot of time and re-dos.

So give it another shot, please.

Ok! I downloaded the "Checker" and "Mp3Gain" to help. So hopefully that did the trick this third take.

Also, one last question: in the future when I record other things, which "mc" do I choose on the Uploader? I have been using 'test' for now but wonder what I'm supposes to choose later on?

Thanks!

Okay, you are good to go. Be aware that for actual recordings you will be expected to edit out mouse clicks and other extraneous noises.

The BC's screen name or initials are at the end of each project title, so that's the folder you would upload to. For example
[SOLO SCI-FI] The Green Girl, by Jack Williamson - icequeen

I upload to icequeen's folder. Easy!

Happy narrating!
