[GROUP] Coffee Break Collection #39 - MAGIC lt
I believe I shall read "The Box of Robbers" -- tomorrow morning! It doesn't deal directly with magic, but clearly there was magic afoot beforehand to make the story possible.

Well, if it isn’t magic keeping three bandits alive in a chest for years (and squishing them back in there again, to be released at some later date), I don’t know what is!
Winnifred
I guess I'm confused about fantasy vs magic. Had she lured them back into the chest saying abra ka dabra and waving a wand, that would definitely qualify as magic! Whatever, it's a very cute story. Will you PL it for me when the time comes?

Well, they’re closely related, and there’s often magic in a fantasy. Fantasy is a genre. I think of magic as the agency that leads to unlikely events (like three men living in a trunk for years).msfry wrote: ↑August 28th, 2023, 7:49 amI guess I'm confused about fantasy vs magic. Sure, I’ll PL your story.
Cheers,
Winnifred

PL Notes, Relation Between Magic and Religion
2:17 Missing paragraph after "end Footnote. "It is very doubtful whether such hard-and-fast dividing lines can be assumed for early stages of religion. In the beginning everything seems to have been in flux — there were no sharp definitions of natural and supernatural, of gods and demons, or, in general, of friendly and unfriendly Powers." There was a vague sense of power . . .
All else is good. If answered prayers aren't "magic", they sure seem so!

Night Wings is PL OK. Thanks for contributing to the project.
BTW I could not discern any difference between the original and new file name.

I am interested in participating in this project. Can we read individual tricks from Magic; stage illusions and scientific diversions, edited by Albert A. Hopkins? There are some good tricks in there with entertaining descriptions that are under 15 minutes, but I’m not sure if it’s OK to read parts of chapters.
