Welcome. You may certainly have chapter 13 but it is best to obtain the approval before recording a chapter in a project. This saves wasted effort in case the chapter has already been assigned to another person. But nevertheless, you may have 13 and thanks for the recording. I will put it into the magic window for our proof listener to check out. Feel free to request more chapters. :D

Hi KT,

Your chapter is engagingly read. There are, however, a few items you need to address before I can mark this PL OK.

Your volume is too low, at 82.5 dB. The acceptable volume range for Librivox is between 86 and 92 dB, with 89 being the ideal. If you're using Audacity, you can correct this by using the Amplify feature as follows:

1. Select your entire track.
2. Click Effect > Amplify, and enter 6.5 in the "Amplification (dB)" box. Then click Apply to bring your volume up to 89.

I notice a few crackling sounds and clicks from time to time (the most noticeable one comes at 0:26-27). These show up as spikes in your waveform in Audacity. If they're standalone, like the one at 0:26, they can easily be deleted, but if they're in text, it's harder to get rid of them. They can sound rather unpleasant to the reader's ear. I had a lot of difficulty with this when I first started recording, but I found that speaking a bit farther away, and past rather than straight into, my microphone eliminated them (of course, you'll have to increase your input volume a bit to compensate). I leave it up to you as to whether you want to correct these for this recording.

At 0:57, you read "solved" where the text reads "unsolved" ("…they never leave a mystery unsolved if they can discover it"). As this changes the meaning, you’ll need to correct it.

At 6:10, you read "She can take that money" but the text reads "She can take the money from that." It doesn’t change the meaning significantly, but it does omit words, so I’d suggest correcting it.

At 9:56, you read "…and she had decided to go over for them and see what she could do for them…" but the text reads "… and she had decided to go over for them and see what could be done to keep them…" I believe this changes the meaning and needs to be corrected.

Your file name has one hyphen where it should have an underscore (between 13 and swan): https://librivox.org/uploads/philchenevert/daisytheautobiographyofacat_13-swan_128kb.mp3. This may cause issues for the MC who uploads the final files. Please correct the file name when you resubmit this recording.

Let me know if you have questions about any of this or need help with the technical stuff.

Thanks,
Winnifred

Hi Jenn,

Nicely read. I just have one little note: In the intro, you’ve started and ended with "Chapter 1," but I think those words only need to be read at the start. For the end of the intro, I believe just the chapter title, "Early Days," would be sufficient.

If you could snip that out and re-upload, this chapter would be PL OK!

Cheers,
Winnifred

Hi Ted,

Although it's not in the Magic Window yet, I've proof listened, and I declare your wonderfully expressive chapter PL OK (and put it into the MW; hope Phil doesn't mind).

Well, in fairness, he only just posted it at 1 o'clock today, and I happened to be in the project at the time, so you really haven't had time to see it, let alone put it into the MW....
