- Maximum click length (steps): 2
- Minimum time between clicks (steps): 3
- Dense click threshold (dB): -45.0

Sorry I missed the meeting but looking forward to the next one and just watched the recording of the last one very interesting.

Hi Phil Sorry I am late to this post but life has been hectic. I am about to retire on Friday and would love to get involved in whatever way I can. Let me knowphilchenevert wrote: ↑November 24th, 2021, 11:38 am I am looking for LibriVoxers who would be willing to host a monthly group session for new people. The idea I am playing with is to have a regularly scheduled group LibriVox zoom or Google Meet session that would meet in two time zones, say on the last Wednesday of each month. Or whatever. The commitment would be for at least six months so that people could learn about it and count on it being there.
If you have a Zoom account that is great but if not, you could use mine as host. Actually I will be using Google Meet which requires no account at all. I am just testing the water here but it would seem a good way to encourage new members, a platform to talk about their problems, ask for advice, and just share with others about LibriVox. We old timers know all about LibriVox, but can be bewildering to novices.
I'd like someone in Europe or Australia so that time zones can be offered. So what do you say? I already know that everyone reading this is a helpful volunteer at heart so think about it. All ideas, opinoons, objections and stuff are welcome. The objective would be to have a regularly scheduled zoom or Google Meet session every month in several time zones. Feeling adventurous? Image
EDIT: I tried Google Meet and love it. thanks!

Well congratulations!!! Life should not be hectic, it should be fun and exciting, but not hectic. About the zoom scheduled sessions on the first monday, we have had 2 so far and evrything has gone smoothly. But I was looking for someone in a different time zone to host one for the people who are asleep at 11 am my time. Algy in Australia volunteered but we could not work out the hosting problems and which zoom account, etc. etc. Any suggestions you have when you take a breath will be most welcome. I plan to do this for 6 months, ending in June.Hi Phil Sorry I am late to this post but life has been hectic. I am about to retire on Friday and would love to get involved in whatever way I can. Our evening zoom Librivox meeting on Feb 7 was good; watch it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7suGablOVRE
I enjoyed watching the evening edition of the February Zoom chat. I left a comment there. I was glad to hear discussion on the length of the disclaimer and want to make a suggestion. I'm not sure where to put it, so I'll start here.
First, it breaks all the rules of refined English to say the same word 3 times in short statement. It feels like a hammer blow, and smacks of blatant commercialism, none of which we are. LV'ers may have learned to tune it out, or grudgingly accept it after being told THIS WILL NEVER CHANGE, but readers and listeners still slug through it with gritted teeth.
This is a LIBRIVOX recording. All LIBRIVOX recordings are in the public domain. For more information or to volunteer, please visit LIBRIVOX.org.
Is this repetition really necessary? What does it accomplish? I've been thinking about this:
[*]To garner more volunteers.
[*]To firmly remind our readers that they relinquish their rights to their material.
[*]To alert the whole world that they are free to take our materials and do whatever they want with them?
[*]To shield LV from legal responsibilities.
I suggest that the first two sentences could be combined with no diminishment of meaning, and maintaining these objectives:
This LIBRIVOX recording is in the public domain. For more information or to volunteer, please visit LIBRIVOX.org.
Further, perhaps the second sentence could be omitted on chapter books after the opening section (which everyone must listen to who listens to whole books). In the case of stand-alone stories or essays, both sentences might have to be included.
In any case, could it not be included at the end, rather than the beginning of each file, and still meet the purposes?
It is also possible that the summary could contain the call for volunteers, so that advertisement would not have to be heard on every single file.

Yes, this makes a lot of sense. And also having it at the end may be a good idea as well.msfry wrote: ↑February 11th, 2022, 9:53 am I enjoyed watching the evening edition of the February Zoom chat. I never thought about it until today, but I wonder why it states “in the public domain” and not specifically “in the United States public domain” ?

Mmmm well I am only 6 hours ahead of you so I would still be awake at 11 am your time as it would be 5 pm here in UK. Happy to help out with other things though let me know.philchenevert wrote: ↑February 8th, 2022, 3:45 pmWell congratulations!!! Would you be willing to host the evening session on March 7? I am not sure how to let you use my zoom room but if it can be worked out, are you available? There is a musical in town for only one night and I'd like to see it.Mmmm well I am only 6 hours ahead of you so I would still be awake at 11 am your time as it would be 5 pm here in UK. Yes happy to do that. What is the difference between a Zoom Room and a Zoom meeting? They are currently offering a 30 day free trial for the Zoom Room so I could sign up to that if it would help.philchenevert wrote: ↑February 12th, 2022, 10:01 amWould you be willing to host the evening session on March 7?
