Strength and How to Obtain It , by Eugen Sandow (1867 - 1925)
In writing this book I have taken it as a commonplace that everyone—man, woman, and child—wants to be strong. Without strength—and by strength I mean health, vitality, and a general sense of physical well-being—life is but a gloomy business. Wealth, talent, ambition, the love and affection of friends, the pleasure derived from doing good to those about one, all these things may afford some consolation for being deprived of life’s chief blessing, but they can never make up for it. “But,” I am constantly being asked, “it is all very well for you to say this, and everyone of sense agrees with you; the point is, can we obtain this much-prized blessing?” In the vast majority of cases I can say unhesitatingly “Yes.” You can all be strong, all enjoy the heritage which was intended for you. (Summary by Eugen Sandow)

I apply for a position as PL (Apprentice: Junior Grade) being new here and never having PLd before (except every lecture, seminar and sermon I've sat through in the past sixty years)
Please sign me up for one or two short chapters that I can tackle, chapters that will be available for PL as soon as possible.

As well I am looking for a PPL - Proof-Proof-Listener (MC/BC/DPL or higher grades) - so that I can learn whether I am up to scratch as a PL.

If I mess up, you can blame it on Kitty, because she has pushed me over the brink (grin!)

My plan, should I pass this entrance exam, is to seek positions that are desperate for PLs (or more junior positions) to complete a project and get it on the shelves. That is, I want to be an "unjam the backlog" volunteer. You are less likely to get fired if you can get the job done (grin)

I adopt YOUR orphaned chapters, for FREE!

Hi Chris,
I think you will do just fine. I will sign you up as DPL. If you feel it isn't for you, we can look for someone to take over or help. I can help as well.
Here is the guide to proof listeners:
https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Guide_for_Proof-listeners
There is no knowing when readers will claim sections so I can't promise there will be anything to proof listen soon.
Welcome aboard! I'll move us to Readers Wanted.

Hi,
I saw that your test hadn't been checked. It has some technical issues. Please take a look at the post. I'll sign you up for the sections once your test is all set. How would you like your name to appear in the catalog.
Thanks,
Amy

Hi! Can I read section 1?

What does "wc 520" mean?

When I read this:
"Section (or Chapter) # of Strength and How to Obtain It . This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information or to volunteer, please visit librivox.org." [Optional: "Read by your name."] "Strength and How to Obtain It , by Eugen Sandow. Section Title."
What do I say in "Section Title"?

I hope I did it right, given the fact that I don't know how my pronunciation is doing nowadays.
Here is the link to the first section. If the section is already claimed, there is no problem. It will function as a pronunciation practice  .

Thank you!

Hi Dyefferson,
Word count is what 'wc' represents.
The section title for this one is "Introduction and Note to the Second Edition." The Section Title is whatever is written in the Title field of the magic window/aka Section compiler. Please check back once it has been prooflistened to see if any updates are needed.
Thanks for Section!

Hi!
The MW says I need to see PL notes but I'm not finding them. What do I need to correct?

Oh, sorry. I was talking to Chris Greaves about the PL notes. He is a new proof listener. I updated the MW by accident before he posted them. Chris, I hope you don' mind me posting them. I will hold off in the future. Here are the notes:
:
"The recording is good. At times I struggled to understand 1- or 2-second pieces at 01:25, 01:58, 02:47, 02:52; this I put down to two causes: (1) I am 75 years old and (2) I need to listen to a new-to-me speaker for about five minutes to tune my own brain into their accent. A reduction in tempo (not speed) in Audacity by between 5% and 10% was an improvement for me. The pronunciations is OK, tempo could be reduced."

There is no update needed unless you choose to, but we wanted you to read the notes and decide whether you wanted to make any alterations.
Thanks,
Amy

Well, these are good advice! In my next recordings I'll decrease the speed in which I say the words.
I'll correct these soon.

Thank you, alg1001 and Chris Greaves!
By the way, Chris is doing a good job as a PL!
