Wow, Larry, what a feat! This is a very challenging script, and you've done a great job so far! As you had feared, there were still some missing bits and a few things that got switched around, but even so, you deserve a hearty round of applause! Compared with the work you've already put in, fixing up these spots shouldn't be too bad at all.
7:45 Missed line: [Jenny lifts the suit-case from the partition-seat and goes out and up the stairs.]
Question for Todd: Do you want Larry to read the "together" directions, e.g.: "Mrs. Pampinelli and Ritter, together."? Some of them I think you'll be able to layer over each other quite nicely, but others will get very muddy, I think. If so, then Larry, you'll need to insert the above phrase at about 15:28.
22:15 Another "together" direction: "Mrs. Pampinelli and Mrs. Ritter, speaking together." (Wait, no, I just heard this phrase in another spot where it doesn't belong. It's at 22:53-22:56, so you can just cut it from that spot and put it in at 22:15.)
23:57 And again here: "Mrs. Pampinelli and Mrs. Ritter, speaking together."
24:09 Another "together" direction: "Ritter and Jenny, speaking together."
31:58 Text here reads "Mrs. Ritter. [Moving over to help her]" I hear "Mr. Ritter."
35:11 You forgot to give the character's name with this direction, since it is at the beginning of a speech: "Ritter. [Stepping quietly to the table at the left and disposing of some cigar-ashes]"
36:05 There's a word substituted here that is significant enough to make a difference, I think. Text reads "...her social status and constant championship of so-called artistic movements..." I hear ""...her social status and constant companionship of so-called artistic movements..."
46:28 Again missing the character name at the beginning: "Spindler. [Turning to Ritter with a suggestion of military erectness]
47:03 A "together" direction here: "Teddy and Hossefrosse, speaking together."
47:16 And another: "Mrs. Fell and Hossefrosse, together."
47:32 And another: "Mrs. Fell and Hossefrosse, together.
48:14 A bit of space here would be helpful, before "He picks it up and hands it to Spindler."
48:45 A "together" direction here: "Mrs. Ritter, Mrs. Pampinelli and Hossefrosse, together."
1:10:48 Another one here: "Mrs. Pampinelli and Mrs. Fell, together."
1:11:18 And another: "Mrs. Pampinelli, Mrs. Fell, Spindler and Twiller, together."
1:13:37 Missing line: [She continues to her former position at the right of the little table at the left. Hossefrosse steps resolutely through the center-door, gives her a wicked look, glances toward the door at the right, then strides forward and plants himself directly opposite her, his head thrown back, his eyes ablaze, and his arms akimbo.]
1:16:30 A "together" direction: "Mrs. Pampinelli and Hossefrosse, together."
1:18:05 And another: "Mrs. Pampinelli, Florence and Hossefrosse, together."
1:18:13 And another: "Mrs. Pampinelli and Hossefrosse, together."
1:20:52 And another: "Mrs. Ritter and Hossefrosse, together."
1:24:27-1:24:30 This is a repeat of this line, so this second instance of it can be cut: "Moving down at the left towards Ritter and Mrs. Fell"
1:33:45 A "together" direction: "Mrs. Ritter and Florence, together."
1:34:12 And another: "Mrs. Ritter, Florence and Mrs. Fell, together."
1:41:42 And another: "Mrs. Pampinelli and Mrs. Fell, together."
1:42:01 Missing line: "He hands her a pillow from the partition-seat where he’s kneeling."
At the end, we still need an "End of Act 1, part 2." (It sounds like you accidentally substituted "Act 2" here.)
7:45 Missed line: [Jenny lifts the suit-case from the partition-seat and goes out and up the stairs.]

Also, Todd, now that I have a better handle on who everybody is, I think I'll play Spindler, please.

I did. There was a problem with the original files that I couldn't resolve so I had to redo it. Le sigh. Anyhow, this file is fine and I'll send the corrected version shortlymightyfelix wrote: ↑February 9th, 2020, 6:05 pm Ok, I listened to the entire Act 1 file for Florence again, since I couldn't be sure, but it seemed like this was a completely new recording.
0:01 I'm not actually sure how important this is, but I just realized that you read your role as "Florence McCrickett," instead of "Miss Florence McCrickett." Usually we want to read the role exactly as it appears in the MW. But this is a pretty minor omission, I think.
2:00 Missing line: "Ready?"
3:39 Missing line: "Which should show you that people are talking."
6:22 Three missing lines:7:06 This pause can be cut. This is all one line.
- Not to speak of the innumerable changes of air that she’s enjoyed—
- at your expense; and under your personal escort.
- I have the day and date of the majority of them. So, you see, your chivalry is a bit trying, under the circumstances.
9:05 Missing line: "as well as the consciousness of lots of company."
Please do not record the whole thing over again, as I suspect you may have done here. It amounts to much more work for you and for your proof listener as well. The chances of not making a single mistake in a second recording are very very low. For instance, some of the lines that are missing from this file were present in the first one. So only address the points I've outlined above. The easiest way is to start at the end and work your way backwards. That way, the time stamps won't change and it'll be very easy to find each problem spot.

Thanks, Jenn! I'll do your spot PL when I get a chance, maybe Sunday? Things have been crazy here.
It makes sense now, since you said you couldn't access the file. In that case, you could always download it again from our server, and that should work. Or if nothing else, you should let your PLer know that it's an all new file, so they won't have to guess. But hopefully you won't need to deal with this issue again!

It is okay here since I take everyone's files apart to make the final product, but the ending for Librivox files should be _128kb not _128kbps. This _128kb ending alerts Archive.org, where our catalog is kept, to automatically generate other user file formats (such as OOG and others) from our mp3 files when we finish a project.JtotheP716 wrote: ↑February 21st, 2020, 2:30 am https://librivox.org/uploads/toddhw/thetorchbearers_florence_01_128kbps.mp3 11:48

It is easiest to have this recorded please. I likely will use such "together" stage directions when I edit if I think a listener won't be sure who is speaking when they hear them mixed - and where it matters dramatically who they are.mightyfelix wrote: ↑February 20th, 2020, 10:02 pm Wow, Larry, what a feat! Fabulous effort, Larry! And thank you Devorah for the PL!

Indeed. I hope not. Recovering files on Ubuntu is...troublesome. Thanks for the info. I will handle this properly in future.mightyfelix wrote: ↑February 21st, 2020, 3:52 am Thanks, Jenn! I'll do your spot PL when I get a chance, maybe Sunday? Things have been crazy here.

Well, this is overwhelming to see such a long list of mistakes.mightyfelix wrote: ↑February 20th, 2020, 10:02 pm This is a very challenging script, and you've done a great job so far! I went over my script prep in detail, edited and and re-edited as carefully as I could line by line.
Part of the problems seems to be that there are some things not clearly marked as part of the stage directions which are all set off by parentheses so I didn't include them. The lines that say so-and-so together. It will be quite an undertaking to go back and get these, but I'll do my best.
I'm glad I haven't completed the editing for Act 2. I'll have to go back to the drawing board and find these missing lines somehow, record and paste.
And, I'll have to re do my script for Act 3.
I'll keep at it until I get it right, but I'm thinking I might not do stage directions again . . .

Today, May 26, is my 11 year anniversary with LibriVox. What a journery!
Some stats: 2,300 projects, 335 as BC, 500 as DPL, 1850 as reader.
More to come
Fortunately perhaps, this is the only play of his that is PD....

Try not to beat yourself up about it too much, Larry. I really was sincere when I said that I think you've done a great job with the complexity of this script.
I'm assuming you know about the working-backwards trick? Where you start at the end of your file and work your way up the list, so the time stamps stay the same? If you go through my notes in that manner, it shouldn't be too bad. I tried to include every line you need in its entirety, so you shouldn't even need to refer back to the script, unless you really want the context.
