Here is Section 15 - Time: 23:16

https://librivox.org/uploads/availle/littlejourneys_greatscientists_15_hubbard_128kb.mp3

This is my first book section for Librivox and it gave me a new appreciation for the work recording one chapter can be. I put the mp3 through the Checker and then through the mp3 Gain app.

Thanks,

Oops - obviously missed a couple of posts...

Thanks Steve, Dave, Robin and Phil! MW updated!

Phil, yes, recording can be so much more work than people may think... I'm sure you did a great job!

Just because you mention it: if you need to adjust the volume of your recording, it is better to do it in audacity (just "amplify by x dB" according to what you need, negative values for x are possible) rather than in mp3 gain. It seems that mp3 gain does not change the volume of the file itself, but only "tells the player" to increase or decrease the volume - and not every mp3 player does understand that

No big deal, but something to keep in mind for the next time.
Cheers, Ava.

Thanks Ava,

I guess part of it is my lack of experience. I'm new to Audacity and voice recording, and I took several recording sessions to do the chapter. The reading was more intense than I realized it would be. I tried to do the mic position and everything the same each time, but some times the volume was in normal range and sometimes it was off the charts. Maybe my distance from the mic changes, but not that I was aware of.

Thanks for the encouragement! :)

Thanks, Dave!

I took care of those two fixes. I also tried to clean up and improve the audio a little after listening to several Audacity tutorials on YouTube. I hope I didn't mess it up.

Here is section 15 again - Time 23:16

Hi there and welcome to this project!

I have given the Huxley sections to you, thanks for claiming!

Before you start recording them though, please wait until your test is marked [OK]! It is much easier to fix a tiny recording (or redo it) than long ones like these.

In any case, have fun on here!
Cheers, Ava.
