Hi John, Sure, there's room! You're most welcome to add "germaphobia" to this volume--four kinds of germs on cats whiskers?... it sounds like a good rant. I'll put you in the MW for #15.

Doesn't it though? :D
Thanks; I'll get to it tomorrow.

I'm sorry for not getting "Germophobia" uploaded yet; I have a good portion of it recorded and edited, but got busy with other things. I should have it up tomorrow or Tuesday.

Thanks, Fritz! Oh, my, yes, another tale of woe... Artic exploring was/is not for the faint hearted. Your reading is PL OK! :)

You know, when you wrote in your post "more doom and gloom from the north," I made a guess, based on an article I had seen in the NYTimes on August 13, that your reading was going to be about the Robert Falcon Scott artic expedition, which perished in 1912. However, on re-reading the newspaper article, I found I was at the wrong pole! The Times article was interesting. Archeologists discovered a 106 year old-fruitcake at Scott's camp in Antarctica. They reported that aside from a very slight rancid butter smell, the fruitcake "looked and smelled edible," the extreme cold in Antarctica having "assisted its preservation."

Thanks, BT, Well chosen! :) I needed a little humor along Benchley's lines today! PL OK.

"Whenever a neighborhood, or county, feels the old craving for blood-letting and gas-bombing coming on, a town meeting is to be called and plans drawn up for the presentation of a masque entitled "Democracy" or "From Chrysalis to Butterfly." In this simple way, one and all will be kept out in the open air and will get to know each other better, thus relieving their bellicose cravings right there on the village green among themselves, without dragging a foreign nation into the mess at all. The slogan is "Fight Your Neighbors First. Why Go Abroad for War?"
