Volume 1 of a four-volume set. Henry Cole has selected and now presents what he considers the best of Luther's writings, including nine sermons. Luther's principal concern in most of his writings is the understanding that salvation is by faith alone and not by human works. This he is not ashamed to repeat in various ways, that we may surrender our efforts to God, and that our works become offerings of love and service rather than attempts to merit his free grace.
