Please note that I have opted to divide Book III Chapter V into three parts rather than two. Frankly, these days I am finding it difficult to dictate more than about 4500 words in a session, and if I split a Section between two sessions I have trouble matching my tempo at the beginning of the second session, as you may notice around 29:30 in Section 13. Putting in the extra Section makes for a relatively uniform set of Sections having 4000 +/- 400 words except for two late Sections, which I will deal with when I come to them.

Very good. Only one potential issue for you to consider please. I’m not sure but at 28:09 it sounds like you maybe say ‘frowned’ instead of ‘found’. Could you listen and see what you think please?

Revised version of Section 14 uploaded, with one correction at 28:09:

Good spot! I don't think I mis-read the word, since "frowned" would make no sense in context, but how I managed to introduce a fricative note into an "f" is anyone's guess - I suppose I was just tiring at the end of a dictation session.

Yes I make some odd slips that are heard on PL that I was convinced were perfect - most irritating

Incidentally, when uploading Section 16, I forgot to note Cook's remarkable statement, at the end of Chapter V, that by observations of the sun and moon, longitude may be determined to within about half a degree "which is sufficient for all nautical purposes"! Half a degree is 30 nautical miles (about 34 British miles) at the equator, and about 22 British miles at the latitude of London. The thought of shipping subject to that sort of error in the crowded seas of the English Channel or North Sea is enough to give any self-respecting captain sleepless nights - thank heavens for GPS!

Indeed, and many authorities issued high rewards to anyone who could find a method to get it to that accuracy (half a degree). Galileo almost got it but went to prison instead. It was this drive that gave rise to almanacs.

BTW PL OK 😂
