Please do not have me thrown off Librivox for harassment! Chapter II was a marathon at over 13,000 words, but I suppose that, since Cook covered at least 700 miles in the course of the Chapter, less than 20 words per mile is hardly excessive.

Rule of thumb for recording length is 10-40 min so you are well within that range. It's also not a strict limit, just a recommendation - we have hour long and longer recordings in the catalog.

Only one of your tone changes issues - which wasn’t bad and is v short so totally up to you whether to address or not. It’s at 2:28 ‘that was as green as grass’Shipley wrote: ↑November 12th, 2023, 6:21 pm Thank you for your prompt review of Section 8. As no good deed goes unpunished, here is Section 9:

Revised version of Section 9 uploaded with one indicated correction made:
https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/firstvoyagejamescookvol2_09_cook_128kb.mp3 (32:36).
I am not sure that this version is much improved, as I still have difficulty matching the pace of the original when editing.

Wow! High drama indeed. So he can tell a good yarn after allShipley wrote: ↑November 18th, 2023, 5:34 pm Section 11 uploaded:

PL OK
Section 12 uploaded (a little late after the usual over-indulgence in turkey at Thanksgiving yesterday):
https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/firstvoyagejamescookvol2_12_cook_128kb.mp3 (38:33).
There is one great mystery in this Section, namely the term "neiping"; the Oxford English Dictionary has not heard of it, and a web search produces numerous references to a city in China but nothing useful. From the context, it appears to refer to distortion of a ship's frame, or possibly even breaking a ship's back, due to the stresses caused when one end of a ship is floating and the other end beached. Any light anyone can throw on the term (including the correct pronunciation)will be greatly appreciated.

I’ve never heard this term before but based on the chapter suspect it’s purely about beaching but doing it at a spring tide when it’s high and thus having to wait weeks for neaps to pass and springs to come round again to float her off. I don’t think it’s about distortion or cracking as he specifically says he left the bow on the beach but the stern in the water and I don’t think he’d do that on a spring tide especially if he was concerned about that effect.
Section 13 uploaded:
https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/firstvoyagejamescookvol2_13_cook_128kb.mp3 (39:51).
Please note that I have opted to divide Book III Chapter V into three parts rather than two. Frankly, these days I am finding it difficult to dictate more than about 4500 words in a session, and if I split a Section between two sessions I have trouble matching my tempo at the beginning of the second session, as you may notice around 29:30 in Section 13. Putting in the extra Section makes for a relatively uniform set of Sections having 4000 +/- 400 words except for two late Sections, which I will deal with when I come to them.
