The Head of the House of Coombe, by Frances Hodgson Burnett (1849 - 1924)
While renowned for her beloved children's literature, Frances Hodgson Burnett's talent extended to historical novels. Originally serialized in 1920 in Scribner's Monthly, 'The Head of the House of Coombe' was met with immense popularity, leading to its full publication in 1922 in two volumes, as it distinctly deals with two epochs. The first, The Head of the House of Coombe, deals with social life in London during the evolutionary period between the late Victorian years and the reign of Edward VII and that of his successor, previous to the Great War. It brings Lord Coombe and Donal, Feather and her girl Robin to the summer of 1914. It ends with the ending of a world which can never again be the same. The second novel, Robin, to be published later continues the story of the same characters, facing existence, however, in a world transformed by tragedy, and in which new aspects of character, new social, economic, and spiritual possibilities are to be confronted, rising to the surface of life as from the depths of unknown seas. Readers of The Head of the House of Coombe will follow the story of Robin with intensified interest. (Summary by Rapunzelina, plus Publisher's Note)

Hello!

Here is Chapter 3. 14:45.

I need to know that Robin will be ok! Feather doesn't seem like the brightest crayon in the box, but hopefully she'll work things out lol

Thank you! Both chapters are PL OK!

Robin will grow up and everything, there's a sequel focused on her, but I probably wouldn't use the word OK  Lord Coombe will come to the rescue for now!

Hey.
How do I apply for any of the sections? Do you assign them randomly or do I choose?
Sorry. I'm new and I have no idea how this works.

Hi shraddhatewari65! Welcome to Librivox!

Yes, you can ask for any section (chapter) that appears open in the Magic Window in a post here, then I will sign your name up in the Magic Window.
Since you are new, it's a good idea to do a sound check first, what we call the 1-minute test, to check your recording setup: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=1-Minute_Test

If you're ready to choose a chapter, just post here which one you'd like and I'll sign you up. Please read the first post in the thread for info on opening and closing words, filename, deadline, etc.

That would be great, Ronni, I'll sign you up! Any questions, just ask. The first post has all the info you need about opening and closing words, filename, upload instructions, etc. If you feel unsure about your recording setup, feel free to do the 1-minute test as described here: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=1-Minute_Test
Have fun!
