A Body of Practical Divinity, by Thomas Watson (1620 - 1686)
Mr. Watson published a variety of books upon practical subjects, and of a useful nature. But his principal work was his Body of Divinity in 176 Sermons upon the Assembly’s Catechism, which did not appear till after his death. It was published in one volume folio, in 1692, accompanied with a portrait of the author by Sturt, a recommendatory Preface by the Rev. William Lorimer, and the attestation of twenty-five other ministers, of principal note in that day; and has since passed through a number of editions both in England and Scotland. This certainly is a nice long one! Too much for me to DPL, I'm afraid, but I'm happy to MC for you.

Out of curiosity, do you know why this edition only has 101 of the original 176 sermons? :hmm: Not that it matters, but I'm always intrigued when I see little discrepancies like that.

Thankyou! I wondered that too. There were 70 or so sermons in this one and I split the sections to make each one shorter (hence 101). I wonder if the editor combined some. The sermon on the the end of the Lord's Prayer is huge - I imagine it has to be multiple things combined...

Oh, interesting! Yes, that would explain it, I suppose. Some of those "sermons" would take all day to deliver if you were to give the whole thing! People in my church get antsy if the sermon goes over 25 minutes.

And we are off to a good start with a PL OK for section 1.

Section 2 has one repeated piece:

13:14 and 13:20 are duplicates of each other "that the weakest judgment may be instructed in the knowledge of the truth, and strengthened in the love of it."

Thanks,
