Thanks Christine, glad you liked the the voices, I am glad that Naphta doesn't speak for TOO long as I think I would run out of breath.... will make those 2 corrections, thanks for that!

You are welcome. We do make our own trials for ourselves with these character voices! All for the noble cause.

Steve,

I'm very glad you're doing volume two! I've been vacilating about it since we PMed

Looking forward!

Hi Kirsten (and Christine)

Great to hear from you. Volume II is nice to be doing - but phew! It's a tough one as I think Christine will agree, on the listening side. Thus far full of eccentric voices, endless convolutions of philosophy, biology, botony, medecine, etc etc and I find myself praying for the next bit of plain old fashioned 'this is what he/she did' narration!!! I am also aware that around a hundred pages down the line there appears yet another larger than life character whose verbal tic is that he speaks in endlessly fractured sentences. God help me then!

Oh goodness! You are up to it! I started listening to Magic Mountain Vol. 1. It is nice to get the backstory as I listen on!

Hello Steve, Christine,

Yes, you are taking on a bit of a task.

Please feel free to PM me at any time if, as a native German speaker, I can be of any help.

Also, make it quick! I'm impatient 8-)

Best, Kirsten

Much appreciated Kirsten, but I am not sure it will be that quick!!! Mann's narrative feels sometimes like the North Face of Everest....

Hi Christine

Hope you are well. Here is Section 6, at 20.20

Not sure I like my shrill-sounding Naphta, but too late to change!!

Hi Steve, I am very well! Wishing you health and happiness too! I do like Naphta's voice but wish it wasn't hard on your vocal chords. Plan to listen today.

Hi Steve, It is a lovely day for listening here in New England. Supposed to be 80 degrees here. Here are your notes on Section 6:
0:19 should be "Chapter 6": A New-comer Part 3"; I heard Chapter 6: A New-comer, Part 2"
Optional Edit at 8:40 should be "if you would rest your case thereon"; I heard "if you could rest your case thereon"

I am simply amazed at your ability to switch back and forth between all these character voices!
Best,
Christine
