Studies in Classic American Literature, by D. H. Lawrence (1885 - 1930)

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/studies-in-classic-american-literature-by-d-h-lawrence/
The staid academic title belies the freewheeling prose of D.H. Lawrence's essays, which are as contrarian, penetrating, and sometimes unpalatable as one might expect from the author. "America has never been easy, and is not easy to-day. Americans have always been at a certain tension." (Summary by Kazbek)

Ah, you must have read the same review of this book in the New York Times that I read yesterday. Thanks for starting it.

May I read Section 1?

By the way, I spotted a repeated passage at the start of #9, and it made me wonder if there are others in the PG version. If you hear any repeats in the readings and they are present in the PG source, we can check them against a scan.

Hi people,

I just joined and was stalking the forums until I found this project. I think it would be a nice first collaboration working in (at least) one of the sections. I skim-read the chapter "Benjamin Franklin" and found it interesting. I noticed it has not been assigned. Could I give it a try? I see the deadline is 60 days after being assigned, right?

If I get a greenlight, I do have a question regarding the "tone" of the reading. I notice the text is written in a very "marked" way, with a certain panache and some theatricality, implied or otherwise. Is this supposed to be read taking this into account or in a more "neutral" tone?

I look forward to collaborating with you all :)

Kind regards,
Gino

Hi Gino,

Certainly, thanks for volunteering! Yes, the deadline is 2 months. We leave interpretative choices up to our readers, so you're welcome to add panache according to taste. :)

Since this is the first time you'll be assigned a section, let me know under what name (real or nickname) you would like to be credited in the catalog. We can include a link to your personal website or blog on your reader page, if you have one.
