I don't know about the compatibility problem.

My suggestion: try just using the built-in Low Pass Filter.

Start with 5000 Hz and 24 dB rolloff. If it takes too much away, hit Ctrl-Z (Undo) and raise the Hz and/or lower the rolloff. Experiment with it a bit for your own voice. :)

please tell us a bit more why you are interested in the de-esser. Perhaps it is something easy to fix without using that program. (Spitfish? what a cool name).

You could try this free one from Techivation which I have used and is decent: https://techivation.com/t-de-esser/

Spitfish is a rather old plugin - I'm fairly certain it's only available in a 32-bit version. You're almost certainly using the 64-bit version of Audacity, which isn't compatible. You'll need to find an alternative 64-bit plugin (which all modern ones are) assuming you can't solve your problem by some other means.

There is a method of using EQ filter to remove sibilance, but it would take some explaining. If you're interested let me know and I'll do my best to explain or provide links?
