Yes, I think it qualifies as a kind of first chapter. Why not?
Here it is:

Thank you, Piotr! PL shows all the text is there, no repeats or stumbles, maybe a 50% idea of what you were talking about, PL OK!
This author wrote several books about Poland. I may decide to solo one or more of those, but for now I'll use this thead as a testing ground to see if I like the first chapters

Thank you, Piotr! This is PL OK! So how much would you rate this first chapter, with 6 being the highest?
It's about history, which is always a plus in my books, it's interesting (for a first chapter) and has a nice cliffhanger, the author actually knows Polish names and how to write them, so I don't to have spend time on Google and Wikipedia trying to re-construct 80% of those.Rapunzelina wrote: ↑December 27th, 2023, 1:09 am Thank you, Piotr! On the other hand, some sentences are convoluted to the point it's hard to make sense of them and it reads a bit like a hagiography (oh, he was so studious and selfless).
Overall, I'd say 4-4.5.
A very short one this time, from a different book by the same author, Monica Mary Gardner

Hi
I would like to offer a recording of the first chapter of Lady Chatterley's Lover by D.H.Lawrence. This was first published in 1928 and so it should be PD in the USA.
But the only text I can find is this one from Gutenberg Australia which, I believe, is not regarded as an entirely reliable source.
https://gutenberg.net.au/ebooks01/0100181h.html
The main Gutenberg does not seem to have this novel and the versions I have found on Archive are either too new or have restricted access.
Would this be an acceptable source? If I do record this it will probably take some time as I don't usually do long Prose sections. Let me know what you think.

The issue with Gutenberg Australia is that it doesn't clarify which publication was used, so this might be the 1928 one, or a later one.
I'm thinking let's give it a day or two and the 1928 text might appear in gutenberg.org or in full view in The Internet Archive.

Hi
Re: Lady Chattersley's Lover
I have now claimed chapter 1 in a group recording of this book and will let that be my version in the catalogue.
