Both PL ok! Thanks for your patience. I can't decide if this story is funny, or just sad. It seems to be a bit of both, really. :hmm:

Great job with all the Scots! This was a nice story.

19:45-23:13 This portion is about 5 dB louder than the rest of the recording. If you need help adjusting the volume for that bit, let us know. It's a pretty easy fix, though.

I could tackle that fix if Freso doesn’t respond, as I’ve done quite a bit of editing on that file already. Wouldn’t want to see all our hard work go to waste.

Cheers,
Winnifred

Sure, if you wanted to go ahead and do it, I'm sure Freso would be appreciative.

I tried reducing it by 5 dB, but that reduced this section well below the rest of the recording, as there's a lot of variation in the volume throughout. I think the volume is particularly noticeable in this section because there's some clipping. So I tried for 2.5 instead, which I think yields a bit less variation.

Here's the file: https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/moonendureth_12_buchan_128kb.mp3 (39:06)

Let me know if you think it needs more tweaking.

Thanks,
Winnifred

Ah yes, I see what you mean now about the variation. That was a good call! I just checked it using the ReplayGain plugin in Audacity and took the numbers it told me, but this sounds great! Definitely PL ok now.

Hi, I was just letting to know I just went ahead and marked section 18 as ready for PL:
https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/moonendureth_18_buchan_128kb_mp3.mp3

I had asked the user to fix the file name and they basically went MIA back in January, so let's see how they did with this one (I can get jo to fix the filename if the rest of it is ok) and I'll orphan section 19 to see if we can get this project finished up soon.

Section 19 has been orphaned. Can we move this back to Readers Wanted? Thanks

There are numerous issues with this recording. The audio quality is not great, with the volume dropping out abruptly at several points and a fairly distracting background noise. There are also several misread words throughout, such as "appealing" for "appalling," "skewed" for "shrewd," "astral" for "ancestral," etc. If it were only once or twice, or if there were fewer issues in general, I'd call it acceptable. As it is, I'd say it's riding the borderline of acceptable or not, and since this reader is MIA, we may want to scrap it and start over. I will let you make the final call though. You may want to have a sample listen for yourself.

The one quick and easy fix is at 2:29. There is a repeat of "chosen by his superiors to keep his eyes open as a foreign attache in our..."

Nicely done! I find it interesting how often Buchan tells a whole story through the mouth of a character within the larger story. That seems to be one of his favorite techniques, I've noticed. :hmm:

A couple of issues to fix here.

5:26-5:31 Two takes here of "Tommy was muddling his particular duty."
15:56 Misread word. Text reads "Ye said the Governor only needed a crisis to behave like a man." I hear "Government."
21:19 False start and retake of "He had all their heathen customs."
