I can MC. MW coming up...

I don't think this needs to be cataloged as a collection with all the individual stories searchable in the catalog since it's all from a single book. I've therefore changed the author for the catalog page to be Various. When you fill in the MW if you wish, you can put the title by individual author in the title field so the readers will include the individual authors in the intros rather than just reading them where they occur in the text.

Hi Jo,

Thanks! I did realize that I didn’t need to include all the authors, but not until after I’d entered them all. I’ll make that change about the authors’ names as your suggestion is far less disruptive to the reading.

Cheers,
Winnifred

Hi!
I'd like to read the following:
0, 16, 27, 29

Some of these have short untitled poems at the end.
I assume you would like these included someway?

Hi Larry,

All yours, with thanks! Yes, please read the untitled poems at the ends (there's one after every story/poem). Just leave a brief pause at the end of the main piece, then go on to read the untitled rhyme.

We're off to a great start!

Cheers,
Winnifred

Here is the preface, at least what I think you intended as a preface, and The Barefoot Boy.

We often crossed the John Greenleaf Whittier Bridge which spans the Merrimack River in Massachusetts at Newburyport and Amesbury where Whittier lived. Interesting line: "With thy red lip, redder still Kissed by strawberries on the hill;" Whittier was color blind and could not tell if lips were red or redder or if a strawberry were red.

Hi Cailan,

Welcome to Librivox!

Before I can assign you a section, please make and submit a 1-minute test recording (1-minute test info) to make sure your recording set up is ok. Post your test in the forum appropriately named Post Your 1-Minute Test Recording Here and an experienced LVer will review it and provide feedback (and/or approve it).

This is not an audition, but just to make sure your technical specifications work for Librivox. It would be a shame to record a section then have to redo it because some simple setting is incorrect.

Once you've had the test approved, head back here and claim your section. I'll tentatively set aside section 1 for you, pending your successful completion of the test. When you return, please read the first post of this thread carefully, as it contains all the instructions you'll need to submit your section.

Also, how would you like to be credited in our catalogue? What name? Most of us use our real names but it’s your choice. It could be your forum name or anything else. It might be what you say at the start of each reading: "read by ......" so people will be able to find your recordings. If you have a personal web site/blog, you'd like us to link to, please provide the url. Once you've provided this information, I can set up your catalogue page.

I look forward to your first foray into reading for Librivox!

Cheers,
Winnifred

Yes, that was indeed the Preface I meant.

My father was colour blind, and always said he saw in shades and just guessed as to what colour they were. He once spent two days boasting to his colleagues (and me) that he'd bought himself a purple suit (while it was being altered). He finally showed up to work in the suit (without showing it to me first, who could have spared him some ribbing) and was heartily laughed at by his colleagues, as the suit was actually a lovely moss green... I suppose Whittier must have had a daughter or other ally who told him the colour of lips and strawberries before he wrote about them.

These are both ready for PL!

Cheers,
Winnifred

Section 0 is PL okay.

Section 16:
04:16 an extra word in a line that breaks the rhythm of the poem. "Like a colt's for work to be shod," should be "Like a colt's for work be shod,"
"Just because you can doesn't mean you should"—my first law of life.
