My Father's Dragon, by Ruth Stiles Gannett (1923 - )
Have you ever wanted to fly on the back of a dragon? Well, so did a little boy whose name was Elmer. This the story of how this little boy went all the way to the Island of Tangerina, to come and save a poor little dragon. He had to face many troubles, but it was all worth it in the end. Now, I know that you are not expecting to ride on a dragon anytime soon, but you are welcome to join Elmer as he risks his life to help this poor dragon in this wonderful book: My Father's Dragon. (Summary by Norah Nelson)

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi, Norah :) If you don't already have a DPL, I would love to do that for you.

P.S. - It might be helpful to include in the summary that this is a 1949 Newbery Honor book, and to have "Newbery" in the keywords. (We have a Newbery Medal and Honor Books collection in the LV Catalog.)

I was wondering if I need to add the magic window? Or will someone else do that? :hmm:

Thanks

The MC who picks up your project will add that, and then you get to fill in the chapters. :)

Usually, someone will activate your project the same day. Once in a while, it'll take 2 or 3 days, particularly around holidays.

It is only 50 odd minutes long so it would fit in the Childrens Short Works
just fyi - we do already have a version in the catalogue - you can do a second version but some do not wish to make repeat versions and are disappointed if they find out later -(it was done as a separate project by a 9 year old boy with much technical assistance from a parent :D )

Hi Anne,

Thanks for letting me know, but I think I will keep doing it as a solo.
I've wanted to do a collaborative book, (I'm not sure when that's going to happen ) but it is suggested to do a solo first.
So that is why I would like to do this as a solo instead of doing in the Children's Short Works.

This project is now set up in the database. Since this will be your first project as soloist/book coordinator(BC), you will need to set up a password for access to the workflow system so you can enter the information into the section compiler which then appears in the "Magic Window" in the top post. Here are some links to detailed instructions for logging into the system and setting a password the first time, as well as for entering and editing information in the section compiler.

Instructions for BCs and DPLs

A version of the above is also in the LibriVox wiki in case you can't access Google Docs for some reason.

BCs - How to Update the Magic Window

If you have any questions, let me know. I'll leave this thread here in the Launch Pad for a day or so longer before I move it to the Going Solo forum, to see if a DPL (Dedicated Prooflistener) volunteers. Looking forward to working with you.

Hi Norah. When you upload a chapter in a solo, copy and paste the link in the MW in the Listen URL column and then change the status using the dropdown to Ready for PL. Also add the length of the recording in the Notes column. I'll do this one for you as an example. :)

So, on your solo, you won't have to past the link in here since you put it into the MW yourself.

I'll see it fastest if you post a comment here, though, just saying you posted ch. whatever. :)
