Shakuntala, by Kalidasa, Translated and Adapted by Arthur William Ryder (1877 - 1938) and Garnet Holme (1873 - 1929)
Ryder originally did a close to literal translation of this 4th or 5th century play by the poet Kalidasa. Quite unwieldy with 7 acts and over 40 characters. "This version of Shakuntala represents an earnest effort to adapt for modern purposes one of the world's dramatic masterpieces. Since Shakuntala is a true masterpiece, its spirit is thoroughly modern, in spite of the fifteen centuries that have passed since its first presentation in India. [Except for some minor changes described herein,] the matter of the play is that of Kalidasa's Shakuntala with a minimum of verbal alteration."
(Summary by ToddHW and Translator)
Hooray - our new DPL is Lora / ADKreader1122. Thank you!!

Gender neutral casting.

Be glad I found this "Acting Version" instead of attempting to run Ryder's original 7 act/40+ character version!

Are you considering claims for multiple roles? My character only appears in Act 3. I could easily claim a small part that only appears in Acts 1 and/ or 2. If you want to wait until the play progresses and see if there is a need that is fine. I just thought I would ask.

Thanks and take care,

Greg
