Hi! May I get some feedback for this? Between being a beginner with different character voices and butchering so many Russian names, I'm unsure where my reading stand or is even acceptable. Thank you!

Thank you. Verla will proof-listen and give feedback.

Don’t stress about character voices. In a novel, particularly a group project, it is fine to “just read it”. There is no way to ensure continuity with so many different readers. Of course, if you enjoy it, that’s fine, too.

As for Russian names… I don’t speak Russian either 8-)
However, we do have a pronunciation help thread in the “Need Help” forum (see the drop-down menu at the bottom of the page). There is also a recommended website called howjasay.com, where you type in the word you’re having trouble with and people have recorded the correct pronunciation. This is particularly useful for place names.

You sound just fine! I would not have known you were a new reader if you hadn’t said anything. And the Russian names were pretty good too. Nothing at all to worry about.

Just one note:
4:00
Repeated phrase “and my childish affection for the kindly governess”
p. 59, end of paragraph beginning “I remembered it well.”
Waiting for a clever signature line to occur to me.

Cheers, VERLA

Hi Lynne, Please remove me from DPL on this. I'm gone most of October and am kind of overcommited even as it is. Once I'm back in town and caught up in November, I'll think about taking some things back on. But in the meantime, maybe another DPL will pop in.

Not sure we’ve moved on since you were last here.
