Pride and Prejudice , by Jane Austen (1775 - 1817)
(Summary by )
Source text (please read only from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/42671/pg42671-images.html

Target completion date:

Prooflistening level: Standard
Prospective PLs, please see the Guide for Proof-listeners.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Before starting a solo project, please complete and get an OK on a one-minute test to check your technical settings. It's not an audition, but to simply confirm that your files meet our requirements Post your test in the Listeners Wanted Forum and an experienced LVer will have a listen and check the specs for you.  It would be a shame to record a whole section, only to have to redo it because of some simple setting that is incorrect.

Even if you are experienced with recording elsewhere, please send in a short test recording to check that all the technical settings meet LibriVox requirements before recording a full chapter.

1-Minute Test

Also as a new reader, we strongly recommend that you record a section or two in group projects before embarking on a solo, so that you can get a sense of the amount of time and effort a commitment to a solo recording would entail, as well as become a little familiar with the community here and our process for submitting files, prooflistening, etc. As a soloist, you will also be responsible not only for recording and editing all the sections, but you will also be your own book coordinator (BC) which means you will be responsible for entering all the information (titles, time, links) into the workflow system.

You need to look in the various "reader wanted" forums to find projects looking for readers.

This was set up by another for a solo project, but the reader is too new to take on such a large project as a solo just now. While I see you have done your test and have signed up for a section in a group project, I'd highly recommend (1) finishing that section, and then (2) if you really want to jump into solo work right away, do something quite a bit shorter than this. :)

Keep in mind we have 7 versions of this already in the catalog. We really don't NEED another one, but if a reader really wants to record it themself, they may. But I HIGHLY suggest getting more recording experience before embarking on such a large work.

I see this is in the Launch Pad; I'm not sure why it is. I'll move it to Book Suggestions to keep the Launch Pad tidy. (But just because it's in Book Suggestions doesn't mean it's a request for someone to record it. We don't have another place to put projects someone posts, but that they're not ready for yet.)

Maybe create an On Hold sub-section of the Launch Pad section? I do think putting them in Book Suggestions confuses people. I've seen several where new folks think they are requested projects.

You've got it wrong - it was in the launch pad when the second reader claimed it, and it was moved away afterward. It is difficult - new readers are not aware threads are moved around and they can just feel that they did something wrong and post again. Everyone is sent a welcome email explaining the process and the best way to get started quickly. But it's human to not read instructions :D

Hey, who needs to read? It's not as if this is a website devoted entirely to reading or something.... :D
