Julian Huxley, brother of famous novelist Aldous Huxley, was a noted evolutionary biologist, a major supporter of natural selection, who was also one of the leading scientists to promote international relations and cooperation among the scientific community, being the first director of UNESCO.

I know some folks on here are big fans of science texts, and Huxley is a pretty major voice in ethology that is totally unrepresented in the catalog so far. Here's what he has written that has fallen into the public domain (he continued to produce texts well into the 1970s).

The Individual in the Animal Kingdom (1912) [38,097 word count]

Courtship Habits of the Great Crested Grebe (1914) [34,741 word count]

Essays of a Biologist (1923) [72,119 word count]

The Stream of Life (1926) [19,858 word count]

And the grandson of another noted biologist of the 19th century, Thomas Henry Huxley https://librivox.org/author/2741

I think Julian and Aldous Huxley were actually brothers. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/22/Huxley-Arnold_family_tree.svg

Ah, I think I must've misread something that said Aldous was one of Julian's children. Either way, looks like some potentially interesting projects.

Hi, I’m interested in recording: The Individual in the Animal Kingdom (1912) [38,097 word count]

What’s the next step? How do I send the text to my kindle?

Welcome to Librivox! Thanks for your interest in recording this. First off, I would strongly recommend heading over and uploading a 1-minute test to check your tech specs to make sure they meet the Librivox standards (this isn't an audition or anything, just to make sure you are able to record in the proper format and everything). The 1-minute test area is here:
viewforum.php?f=21

Before diving directly into a solo which can be a bit daunting for newcomers, you might want to head over to the Readers Wanted sections and volunteer for a couple of Group projects to get the hang of how things work before starting a solo project.

Hi Stevi -

You mentioned in another post that you are currently living in Brazil. Julian Huxley died in 1975 and his books are still under copyright protection Jan 2046 in countries like Brazil where copyright term lasts until 70 years after the author's death. Here in the U.S. copyright term for books published before 1978 is 95 years after the original date of publication so The Individual in the Animal Kingdom (1912) is PD in the U.S. Sorry :(

Waiting for a clever signature line to occur to me.
