There are three places where I corrected an incorrect tone number resulting from faulty conversion between the systems of the first and second editions:
at 13:06 (p. 240) 3rd becomes 4th (first edition: "low. 3d tone")
at 26:15 (p. 248) 3rd becomes 4th (first edition: "up. 3d tone")
at 35:25 (p. 255) 2nd becomes 4th (first edition: "read haou, low 2d tone, or kaou, up. 2d." The obsolete alternative pronunciation is thus gǎo, in third tone.)

Section 13 is ready for PL.

According to the table of errata in the first edition, the qu-sheng mark in the second-last column on p. 260 is incorrect, and so 間 is read jiān. Also the character 以 in the last column of p. 246 should be 與.

Just checking in: after two months in which I devoted my recording effort to Burke (in two group projects) and a month when I didn't find time to record, I am resuming work on the Mencius projects.

It has become clear that my plan of recording the original and translation in parallel is slowing me down too much. Accordingly, I have decided to abandon the Chinese-language sections and consolidate this project with the companion one. The mapping of sections from old to new will be:
1-5, as before
7 -> 6
1-14 (of translation project) -> 7-20 here
23-36 -> 21-34

Thus,
  • sections 6 and 8 are to be deleted from the MW,
  • the language listed for the catalogue to be changed to English,
  • the section titles for Mencius's text to be replaced with translated/transliterated forms,
  • the current Section 13 to be deleted,
  • the disclaimer on section 27 to be revised to make it section 25,
  • the disclaimer on section 5 of the companion project to be revised to make it section 11 of this one,
  • the introduction in the first post revised, and
  • the companion project to be deleted.
See if there are any objections to this plan. I think the first two tasks and the last one require admin privileges; the rest I can do myself.

That's fine. It's similar to how we record from Loeb editions. The first two items are done.

I've also added Legge as translator and removed his name from the title. We don't put editor names in the title. We also usually don't credit the author of introductory materials and as an author of the project, but in this case they are so extensive, that it doesn't seem unreasonable to treat it as a special case.

Thanks. The MW is now in order.

I've moved all files to "See PL Notes" to remind myself that in Sections 1-4, I was going to add "The Chinese Classics, Volume II:" to the title in the disclaimer, and that Section 25 needs its number adjusted.

Section 5 is ready for PL.

Sections 1-4 are ready for spot PL, as I have added "The Chinese Classics, Volume II:" to the disclaimer.

I have split up Yang Zhu and Mo Di into separate sections, as there are more words per page than I realized in those translations in small print. The files that still need adjustments to their disclaimers will be sections 12 and 26.

Section 12, previously PL'ed as Section 5 of the companion project, is ready for spot PL with the revised disclaimer.

At 24:00 and 24:09, I made an additional correction, as the guy's name is Zǐgòng, but I had previously read it as Zǐgōng.

I've revised the first post, so that the summary no longer has any references to recording the Chinese text or to the companion project, and the Chinese language disclaimers were deleted. I also pushed the target completion date to the end of October.

Section 26, formerly 27, is now ready for spot PL of the section number. This completes the items on the todo list for merging the projects.
