I'd like to record "Anna's Whim," Part 1. (I'd be happy to record Parts 2 and 3 as well, but perhaps others would like to claim those parts.)

Thanks!

Cindy
Thanks, Cindy. I'll put you in for 1, 2, and 3, as I think you can handle the full load, and I always enjoy a story told in one voice. :)

Hi Michele,
Your section is PL OK. You have the perfect voice for that story.
Have a nice evening!

Hello --

I've finished recording "Anna's Whim" (sections 4, 5, and 6). I'm putting all of the information into this post for convenience and to correct a typo I made (though I cut and pasted!! :( ) when I named the mp3 files of sections 4 and 5. I corrected the names and uploaded the properly named recordings.

Here's the information for sections 4, 5, and 6:

https://librivox.org/uploads/alg1001/silverpitchersandindependence_04_alcott_128kb.mp3 25:00

https://librivox.org/uploads/alg1001/silverpitchersandindependence_05_alcott_128kb.mp3 24:53

https://librivox.org/uploads/alg1001/silverpitchersandindependence_06_alcott_128kb.mp3 18:58

Thanks!

PL Notes Transcendental Wild Oats

07

Reduce opening silence to 1 second.
9:58 repeat "Every meal should be a sacrament, and the vessels used should be beautiful and symbolical,"
In both Intro and Outro, Title should recite what is in the Title column, "Section #. Transcendental Wild Oats, Part # Part # is missing in both places.
Reduce ending silence to 5 seconds.

08
Reduce opening silence to 1 second.
In both Intro and Outro, Title should recite what is in the Title column, "Section #. Transcendental Wild Oats, Part #
as above, except that in the Outro you can leave off Part # whenever it is the last part, because it is also the end of the story.
Reduce ending silence to 5 seconds.

This is nicely read and pleasant to listen to. As a general comment, though, I notice you leave 3 second gaps in many places, which seem quite long. I did not cite them and you need not change them here, but in the editing process on future recordings you might want to reduce those down to ~2 seconds. Long gaps occur naturally to many of us when recording as our minds review and mouths prepare to recite the next phrase or sentence, and in other places where we feel the need to take extra little sips of air. These gaps can be tightened up later to improve the natural flow of the recording.

Make your changes and re-upload using the same file names, notating new file lengths, and any other changes you made than those outlined above.

PL Notes for Anna's Whim

04

:28 repeat Anna's Whim Part 1, Anna's Whim (delete second one)

05
While overall volume per Checker falls within LV range of 86-92 dB (90.5), the front end dips to 81dB, and the back end rises to 94.5
So, I fiddled with it and came up with this recommendation which sounds more consistent and blends in well with surrounding words. In Audacity:
0-1:33 Effect/Amplify/+3
19:44 -24:11 Effect/Amplify/-2

06
PL OK

I was truly anxious Frank might have another girlfriend tucked away. I'm glad it ended well. This saucy story, delightfully read (and well edited), has inspired me to begin another Love Stories Collection Volume 6, and read Anne's Whim myself -- if I can read fast enough to get the file length to not much more than 60 minutes. It's been nearly a year since the last volume catalogued, and they have all been popular with listeners. Please look for it in Readers wanted, and/or in my signature (below), and keep your eyes peeled for something to contribute! :D

Thanks so much for the excellent guidance!

Here are the links for the new uploads (with the extra "Anna's Whim" removed from the intro to section 4 and the amplification effects applied in section 5):

https://librivox.org/uploads/alg1001/silverpitchersandindependence_06_alcott_128kb.mp3 18:58

I'll watch for the Love Stories Collection!

Thanks again,

Cindy

I asked my librarian about the noise, and she said, "no one would come here
if they weren't allowed to talk out loud." So I read out loud.
