BetsyWalker wrote: March 11th, 2024, 7:18 am I really thought you did an admirable job on all the other languages. I actually speak some French, so that's why it's so likely I'll zero in on that. With "autres" you pronounced the "au" sound like "ott" in "otter". It should just be a straight "ote" sound like in "note".

I know this chapter was a LOT of work!!!

Oh, yes. I was listening so hard for that 'r' I kind of ignored the 'o'. But you know what? I think that 'r' IS there, just tough to discern without a vowel attached to it. I thought that faint sound at the end was a 'z' or 's', but when you pronounce 'tr' by itself it makes a similar sound. So here it is once again, said like a true francophone (maybe):

Section 14, Law of the Wilderness, attached, in 30:43:

https://librivox.org/uploads/alg1001/oursouthernhighlanders_14_kephart_128kb.mp3

This chapter was more about law (or lawlessness) than about wilderness, so allow me to skip over the 'feudin' chapter and take on Section 16, Who are the Mountaineers?, please.

Thank you,
Brize

Yes, it is Betsy. Sorry for the oonfusion, my comments were an attempt to skip over the next chapter, Blood Fued, (15) but Amy wouldn't have it, so that will be next for me. (They're all pretty good anyway, just alot of murderin' in some of them.) Thanks

Oh Brize, I'm sorry for Section 15--my mistake. I will sign you up for 16. I won't reopen 15 in case you have started it. Let me know and I'll take you off it. I've just been a scatterbrain on this one!

I only asked because the MW doesn't say "ready for PL". I've learned the hard way that I need to take the MW exactly as shown and not to make assumptions. Glad it's ready, though! I'll do the PLing today.

Another good read, Brize. Just two comments:
---At 18:27
Mispronounce “maquis”. You had it perfect, except there’s no “r”.
---At 28:07
Written “…will but perceive…”
Spoken “…will not perceive…”

Good call, Amy, and yes I have recorded 15, and am looking forward to 16 (if only to get my mind off 15 -ugh!). Among other 'downers' I think I just read the author''s 'in defense of assassination'! Well, I guess it's good to pull my head out of the sand once in a while, if only to convince me to stick it back in, deeper! I'll give 'Blood Feud' a PL on Monday, and turn it over...might even leave my name off, IDK.

Thanks,
Brize

Good catches, both, Betsy. (At least I didn't Anglicize that word into ma-KWISS, as was my first instinct). Clocks in at 30:43 still.
