IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Welcome to LibriVox!

Please be sure to complete our 1-Minute Test before you record your first contribution. Its purpose is to ensure that your recording software and hardware is set up in accordance with LibriVox technical standards, so that you get a chance to adjust your setup without having to redo a longer recording. The instructions can be found on this wiki page:

https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/1-Minute_Test

Also, we recommend that new volunteers start by making at least one contribution to a collaborative project before embarking on a solo project of their own, to make sure they have an idea of the amount of work it takes to record and edit an audiobook. If you'd like to record in Arabic, we have a group project for Kalila wa dimna:

viewtopic.php?t=79535

You can also record a text in Arabic of your choice for the Multilingual Short Works Collection (be sure to read the instructions at the top of the thread):

viewtopic.php?t=95878

If you'd like to contribute a reading in English or another language, you can pick any project in the Readers Wanted forums.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Great, someone will check your test shortly (I'm away from my equipment this week). I'll move this thread to the forum Book Suggestions for now. I'll move it back to the launch pad when you're ready to start.

In the meantime, we can discuss the source. We normally use the title page and other front matter to determine the copyright status of the book. Oddly, in the scan you found the front matter was removed and replaced by a modern cover. Is this version at Hathitrust fully viewable for you?

https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=hvd.32044012583514&view=1up&seq=1

Also, please see the warning in red at the top of this thread and make sure that the text is in the public domain in the country where you are located. We ensure that LibriVox is complying with the copyright laws in the US, where our servers are located, and we expect our contributors to ensure their personal compliance with their local laws.

Thanks,
Michael

Yes it is. I can read that one if it's necessary.

Yes, let's use the Hathitrust version. It seems to be the exact same scan, with the same tiny printing/scanning imperfections, but it has all the pages and won't be taken down, as IA community uploads sometimes are. If you find reading from the IA version more convenient, you could use it, as long as the proof-listener follows along with the Hathitrust text and can alert us if the two versions diverge. I can do that, unless you already have a PL lined up. Once you've completed the section from Kalila wa dimna, please reply in this thread to confirm your intention to proceed with this solo and I'll set it up for you.
