The Lotus Sutra is venerated by the Tiantai (天台), Huayan (華嚴), Pure Land (淨土宗), Chan (禪), Cheontae (천태종), Seon (선), Jogye (대한불교조계종), Taego (태고종), Tendai (天台宗), Zen (禅), Nichiren (日蓮仏教), Soka Gakkai (創価学会), Thiên Thai, Hoa Nghiêm, Thiền, and Tịnh Độ schools of the Mahayana Buddhist tradition, among others.

Sanskrit: सद्धर्मपुण्डरीकसूत्रम् Saddharma Puṇḍarīka Sūtram (lit. Sūtra on the White Lotus of the True Dharma)
Chinese: 妙法蓮華經 Miàofǎ Liánhuá jīng (short: 法華經 Fǎhuá jīng). This is the title of Kumarajiva's Chinese translation. The characters mean: Subtle (妙) Dharma (法) Lotus (蓮) Exalted (華) Sutra (經). The title of Dharmaraksha's Chinese translation is 正法華經 (lit. True Dharma Exalted Sutra)
Korean: 묘법연화경 Myobeop Yeonhwa gyeong (short: 법화경 Beophwa gyeong)

Geoffrey, I'll be glad to set this up for you. First, on the subject of authorship. Are there scholarly sources that attribute this text to Gautama Buddha? Based on what I'm seeing, its authors are unknown.

Regarding authorship Mahayana Buddhists say that the Lotus Sutra contains the Words & Teachings preached by Buddha himself. These words were then preserved orally by monks for several centuries and finally written down out of fear that they would be lost.

It is the same as the Lord's Prayer or the Sermon on the Mount. Christians say these contain the Words & Teachings of Jesus. Jesus didn't write them down himself. They were preserved orally for several decades and then eventually written down. A Christian would say they were authored by Jesus.

Traditional beliefs about authorship is something that could be mentioned in the book summary. It's not something we use in the catalog and intro/outro. For example, we don't list Jesus or the Evangelists as the authors of the Gospels. Normally, the author listed by the source is the attribution we use. In this case, the source doesn't mention an author. We would make an exception if the author listed by the source is different from the author listed by modern library catalogs, for example, if the original edition was published anonymously, but the author is now known. We also have a special format for the Bible, where we list the name of translation as the author. None of these special cases apply here, so we would use the standard format of listing the author as "unknown" in the catalog. In the intro/outro, you can either omit the author or say "by unknown author", as you prefer.

Some of these Chapters will almost certainly be longer than 74 minutes. Is that ok or is is absolutely necessary for them to be under that threshold?

Is the Intro being used on the two currently uploaded sections ok? Hendrik Kern would just be mentioned on the First Intro for the First Chapter.

Hi Geoffrey,

We need the long disclaimer in the first section even if it's a solo and the name of the translator should be included in all the intros. I changed the first post to use the standard format.

We make sections shorter than 74 minutes to accommodate readers who listen to our books on CDs. In exceptional cases, when there is a longer section in a group project due to a planning error and it would be too burdensome to fix it, we do make exceptions. In this case, you're doing the right thing in planning ahead, so you can split some chapters to keep all sections under the limit. When some chapters are split, the intro/outro normally uses the word "section" rather than "chapter" as the "counter", while your section title can be something like "chapter #, continued".

Also, you don't need to put section numbers in the title. They are added automatically at the start of the title during cataloging. If these are chapter numbers, it's better to put the word "Chapter" in front of the number. If the titles in the MW start with numbers, it can trip up our cataloging system.

Chapter 3 was 75:30 long so sadly it had to be broken in half.

Almost all of the other Chapters will just be a single file.

The apparent breaks on the project window are to organize recording into bite size chunks.
