I asked my librarian about the noise, and she said, "no one would come here
if they weren't allowed to talk out loud." So I read out loud.

Thank you, Czandra! We could certainly use more works from Québec! Could you give us a few keywords?czandra wrote: ↑March 20th, 2023, 6:13 am I'd like to post a piece in French. https://fr.wikisource.org/wiki/La_Cha%C3%AEne_d%E2%80%99or_(LeMay)

keywords: pathos! misery! empathy! (just joking, but in a sinister way)
Here: poetry, poverty, charity, pride
pauvreté, poésie, charité, orgueil

this was such a sad story but beautifully narrated, thank you, Czandra. I only have a few small corrections to note:czandra wrote: ↑March 20th, 2023, 6:13 amI'd like to post a piece in French. https://fr.wikisource.org/wiki/La_Cha%C3%AEne_d%E2%80%99or_(LeMay)

> at 0:07: for the intro disclaimer, please only read the French or the English, but not in both languages, as that would be overkill. Since at the end you say the disclaimer in French, maybe also keep the one in French at the beginning

> at 21:08: (p. 23) "les rayons de leurs paisibles flammes" – you say "faibles"
thanks

and PL ok now, thank you
if I may make a suggestion for your keywords:
in this case I don't think the French word "orgueil" is fitting as it has quite a negative connotation. What you mean here is "I have my pride", so I don't want to beg. This would be more something like "honneur" in French. "J'ai mon honneur". Whereas "orgueil" means more "pride" or "arrogance" as in "I feel so much better and more worthy than you", which is not at all the feelings they have in this story.czandra wrote:Here: poetry, poverty, charity, pride

Thank you Sonia! Always willing to engage in a conversation about words! I'm happy with honneur.
Personally, and I know this rules it out as a keyword, I do feel il s'agit d'orgeuil, puisque la famille a quasiment menti pour ne pas admettre qu'elle est dans le besoin. D'apr'es moi, ce n'est pas honorable, cela, quand quelqu'un en meurt!

ok yes I see your point, but even there you can use "honneur" in French. Frankly all the "honour killings" one hears about have nothing honourable in them either. So "honneur" is often used for the wrong reasons as well.
Sad but true. It's your text, if you wish to keep orgueil you can have it.
