Chicago, by Maurine Watkins (1896 - 1969)

Volunteers outside the USA: Maurine Watkins died in 1969. This person's work may still be protected by copyright in countries where copyright duration is determined by the author's death date. In Europe this is 70 years; in Canada it is 70 years for authors who died after 1971; and in Australia it is 70 years for authors who died after 1955.
The hit Broadway play that spawned the musical of the same name! All the low-life, Jazz-age characters are here, including Roxie Hart, the famous murderess and her lawyer, Billy Flynn. In addition to the musical, Chicago had three other film versions, including a silent movie in 1927. Note: Due to the characters and subject matter, some of the language is crass and insulting. The character of Roxie uses the n-word one time. I will be reading the stage directions. (Summary by WendyKatzHiller)

This text has a publish date of 1927, and was "edited by George Jean Nathan." The only other ones I've found are also published in 1927. I think we'd be more comfortable if a 1926 text was used, or else wait until January to start the project with this text.

It's possible the play was performed in 1926 but the script wasn't published until 1927. :hmm:

P.S. This same text scan is here, with a clear copyright date of 1927: https://archive.org/details/chicago00watk/page/n3/mode/2up The one you linked to seems to have omitted the copyright page.

Oops. My bad. Thanks for setting me straight. Can I delete this, or do I have to have special powers? :)

Hi Wendy,

Are you looking for a part PL'er or a section final PL'er?

In Act III, will the characters be reading their voices when Harrison reads the typewritten page?

I'll set this up and MC. MW shortly.

EDIT: MW ready for you. I did not put Jim in as DPL since he is only doing the final PL - I left the ~ as well since you still need the parts PL'er.

Thanks, Todd

May I play Billy Flynn? My son had that role on stage and I loved it.

Thanks, Todd
