I misread a word in my recording and didn't catch it until later. I have read through a bunch of articles on editing, but can't find the one that tells how to go into the middle of an audio file and add a clip. With my basic tech skills I can't figure it out just messing around with Audacity. What am I missing here?

Yes. I too do it almost the same way. Essentially copy & paste

And sometimes, some sound overlaps occur too. Then expand (zoom in) and remove the unwanted overlap. this is particularly when re-recording of the word and copy/ pasting calls for remastering effort.

And remember the marvelous 'c' key that lets you listen to what you have pasted in to see if everything sounds good before actually doing it. And of course the 'z' key that removes your last edit so you can start over again and do it right.
