Studies in the Psychology of Sex, Volume 3: Analysis of the Sexual Impulse; Love and Pain, by Havelock Ellis (1859 - 1939)
In the third study, on The Sexual Impulse in Women, we approach a practical question of applied sexual psychology, and a question of the first importance. No doubt the sex impulse in men is of great moment from the social point of view. It is, however, fairly obvious and well understood. The impulse in women is not only of at least equal moment, but it is far more obscure. The natural difficulties of the subject have been increased by the assumption of most writers who have touched it—casually and hurriedly, for the most part—that the only differences to be sought in the sexual impulse in man and in woman are quantitative differences. I have pointed out that we may more profitably seek for qualitative differences, and have endeavored to indicate such of these differences as seem to be of significance. (Summary by Havelock Ellis)

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Magic Window is in place!
To gain access you'll need to set up your own password, which can then work for the uploader, too.

Here's all you need to know about the Magic Window, how to fill it in and keep it updated:
https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Soloists:_How_to_update_the_Magic_Window

Start with "Accessing the System – First Time Login" to create your password.

It's a lot of information, so please ask if anything is unclear. :D

I have shortened the filename. If you find that you need more sections, you can always add with the "Add New Section" button (in the "BC Admin" area of the Magic Window).

Mornin! Thank you for getting me started :D I noticed for the first volume of this series the readers did not include the footnotes, should I also not include the footnotes in my reading?

Hi, Krystal,

I see you haven’t been on in some time, so I don’t know if you’ll see this post!

I was looking for something to PL, and I see you’ve uploaded some files, but the MW doesn’t say they’re ready for PL, and there’s not a link here in the comments.

Are those sections ready for PL?

Thanks,
Stephanie

Okay, I hope I'm not stepping on any toes here, since I don't see a tilde in front of the title any more, but also don't see evidence of a DPL!

Section 1 PL notes:

I hear that you say "The Studies…" instead of "Studies..." 0:02
The text says "is full of interest"; I hear you say "is of full interest." To me, that has a slightly different connotation, but I'll leave it up to you on whether or not to change that one. 1:36-1:37

I'll do Section 2 now. I do note that Section 1 is 87.5 dB, and Section 2 is 91.3 dB. Those both fit within the range of 86–92 dB, but it will be quite a difference for the listener going from one section to the next. Which do you think is your more normal recording range? Do you want to try to get the other recording into that same range? I'd have to look up more instructions on how to do that (or send you over to ask for help!).

Section 2 PL okay!

(Unless, of course, you want to change the dB level as I mentioned in my last post. Content-wise, though, this is good to go.)

Great work. :)

I am learning this whole PL role!

One note going forward:

In both sections you have uploaded here, you've included your reader information ("read by") in both the intro and the outro. Please choose only one place to record that. If you want to include the lengthier version, with location and date, I'd put it at the end of the section.

Requests:

Can you please fix that in Section 1 since you're already making edits?

If you don't mind fixing it in Section 2 as well (just removing it from either the intro or the outro), that would be helpful as well.

Thanks, and sorry for the additional PL notes!

No toes stepped on, no one else has listened to them yet :} Not sure what happened to the tilde, I don’t think I touched it. This is my first solo project and I forgot I needed to post the links in the thread to let you know they were ready for editing.

I’ll fix the into outro, not sure which one I’ll do just yet, and I’ll re-record the little edits you suggested for section one.

I am fumbling my way around Audacity and learning as I go so I’m not sure how to make the audio level the same for every recording. When I put my files into the Checker application it only tells me they’re within range and doesn’t say exactly how loud they are. I’ll dig into the Audacity manual and the How To Librivox made to try and found out, but if you find something please don’t hesitate to share :D Messing with audio is complicated as heck and I’ll gobble up all the help I can get.
