Hi,

I recently used a LibriVox recording as "vocals" for some sparsely arranged electronic music (with piano, bass and some strings):

The recording originates from the collection Library of the World's Best Literature, Ancient and Modern volume 4 by Various Authors.
More precise it is using the poem Ailleen by John and Michael Banim read by [mention]ravenotation[/mention].

As I was browsing the LibriVox recordings, listening to the song's instrumental on a loop, I knew immediately that this poem fit!

Thank you all, especially ravenotation. LibriVox is such a great project.

Taking the term "libri" in librivox seriously, the entire project was exclusively done with libre software, i.e. Ardour for the music and kdenlive for the video.

I like the marine feeling I get reminded of in parts of the first one, I like the 1,500 it sounds bladerunner in parts. On it's own I like it.

It's awesome to see more work made from public domain (PD) sources, I hope to see more.

Are your works released under a particular license, or different licenses ? are any of them free license or PD? curious, always looking for free things to yoink. Free music is rare. Being able to talk to the artist is even more rare.

It's true that the readings fit to the music. There is so often something musical put into a reading, it sets it apart from normal speaking. It's awesome to see that highlighted. Moving across the scale. I think my own speech has it's own timing and it doesn't go anywhere near the musical end at all. Timing and Rhythm. it's interesting to explore.

The last one, FABULOUS. awesome. well done. Love it. I love cheeky lyrics in some songs and this is too good.

Regarding timing: The inherent timing of a vocal recording is often so strong and consistent, that it works with music even without much editing.
The music goes to the background and makes the vocals stand out And it also doesn't matter much, if the key and the music and vocals match. Again, it often simply works together.

I am a strong supporter of the Creative Commons licences. In Soundcloud it use CC-BY-NC most of the times. On youtube it is CC-BY, I guess.
If I do patches in a synthesizer, there are CC0.
