The Countess of Rudolstadt, by George Sand (1804 - 1876), translated by Francis G. Shaw

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-countess-of-rudolstadt-by-george-sand/
This sequel to Consuelo picks up not long after the striking conclusion of the first novel. Consuelo is enjoying a brilliant singing career. She befriends Princess Amelia of Prussia, the woman adored by Baron von Trenck, whose acquaintance Consuelo made in her previous adventures. She has also attracted the admiration of King Frederick II, who is Princess Amelia’s brother, and finds that she must tread carefully in order to both remain on his good side and protect her friends from his wrath. Despite her best efforts, however, she finds herself in prison, suspected of participating in a conspiracy against the king.

As events escalate, Consuelo becomes entwined in the operations of a secret society. After she falls in love with a member of the society, she is faced with a heart-rending choice. (Summary by Scarbo)

I would like to be the DPL, except for any chapters that I record myself.

I've chosen the version of this book on the Internet Archive rather than the one on Project Gutenberg because I prefer this translation.

Aha! A sequel! I was just thinking how I was going to miss working on Sand, so I'm down with, say, chapters 10-14 if you'll have me. (I'm avoiding chapter eight, as my iffy eyesight had some trouble with GOOD text, so will leave that chapter for more eagle eyed vols)

Thanks,
Brize

By all means you can have 10-14! Thank you for claiming! You'll have fun with this one, I'm sure.

Thank you for chapter 10! It sounds great, as always. There's just one quick thing to take care of and then you'll be all set: at 26:46, "more resolutely, perhaps," it sounds as though the end of "perhaps" is cut off a bit (p. 122).

Yes, cutoff it was, though at first I thought it was just a 'space' issue and tried inserting some. Sounded good, perhap, but not quite right, so went ahead and re-recorded with a plural 'perhaps'. Must've added a second of space, too, as it's now 31:19.

Thanks,
Brize

Attached is chapter 11, which messed with my head as much as chapter 10. Is this translator the same as for 'Consuelo'? I keep tripping over language and phrases, which really annoys me when I'm proofing (and I sure hope I got them all). Maybe my resolution this year should be "read the words on the page (in the order they appear), not what pops into your head!" Anyway, it's getting there, maybe I'll eventually talk more like Sand (or the translator). Runs 32:12

Thanks, and happy new year!
